Title: Lost Soul Idea - Companion
Post by: Bobbert on July 02, 2017, 12:15:40 AM
An idea I've been knocking about for a while now. Let me know your thoughts!

Lost Soul
Identifier: Companion
Each upkeep, you may negate a Lost Soul OR a Lost Soul cannot be negated this turn.
"He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will suffer harm." Proverbs 13:20

Is your opponent annoying you with their Imitate? Is their Moses stopping YOUR Imitate? Is their Pigs negated, allowing them to draw? Here's your answer.

First off, here's the proper wording: (or as proper as I can think)
"Each Upkeep, you may Negate a Lost Soul or a Lost Soul cannot be negated this turn."

Interesting idea. I kinda like it

Much more concise, thanks! Updated the OP.

One question for the rules experts (because I don't know how my own card works :P): since cards that grant CBN are themselves CBN, would the negate part of this be CBN, or only the CBN-granting part of the card?

As far as I've known, it would only be the granting CBN.

Only the portion granting CBN is CBN, the negate portion is still negate able by something like, Moses or dragon raid, for example.

This is a fun idea!

Functionally the last portion cannot work as is because of the way CBN works within the game. A special ability either does or does not have the CBN modifier when it initially activates. The card cannot later gain (or lose) CBN after it has activated.

A possible was to make it function is to say something like "You may return to hand and replay a Lost Soul. The special ability of that Lost Soul cannot be negated.

Hmm. That kind of puts a damper on this idea - I'm not sure I'm a fan of it systematically making all of your souls permanently CBN, and the way around that that I see (returning the chosen soul to hand again when it reactivates) would make it incredibly clunky.

As a side note, is the "replay" in your suggestion necessary? As I understand it, whenever a Lost Soul enters hand it is immediately placed into LoB.

You could actually give the soul the ability to do the CBN function once, and have the negate function continually.

Hmm. Perhaps a per-game limit would make that better.
I had another idea that would make the card function as intended (Each upkeep, either negate a Lost Soul or gain another Lost Soul's special ability for one turn. CBN), but that would turn it into a more flexible Imitate. Do you think that only effectively copying ongoing abilities (instead of acting like it was just played) and being an OT soul is a viable tradeoff for the advantages of flexibility and CBN?
