Title: Generic Psalms/J.M./Control Boost! (Pt. 1/3)
Post by: Master Q on March 23, 2017, 02:31:20 PM
I was inspired recently to create my version of a "Fearless Traveler" theme, based on the excellent new state promo. Strangely enough, most of that inspiration is thanks to a deceased artist's legacy. John Martin has so much quality work that I'm shocked Redemption hasn't really tapped into it until this new set.

The idea was to complement and encourage the use of a generic Hero theme, something I think redemption has sorely lacked for far too long. Since Fearless Traveler is going to be a thing, it made perfect sense to expand on that. My criteria for that was:

1. Psalms reference
2. Have some element of deck control/generic Hero support
3. John Martin art

Seems limiting, but you'd be surprised. At first it was only going to be a card or two, but it quickly became more like 10-12. These cards are leftovers from my quest, and do not necessarily tie into the Fearless theme.

Treacherous Land
Spoiler (hover to show)

-This card was actually a verse-first card; as in, I came across the verse and wanted it to be a card. I couldn't decide on the art until I started searching for art for the Fearless theme and found this. I think it could work with a deck that often utilizes the Reserve.

The Crimson-Clad Enforcer
Spoiler (hover to show)

-This is pretty much unrelated, but, in an opposite instance of Treacherous Land, I saw this picture and had to do something with it. As it was, there's even a perfect verse to fit! The ability I'm not sold on, but it's a concept more than anything.

Lost Soul (Sleep)
Spoiler (hover to show)

-This is the closest tie-in to the Fearless theme out of these 3 cards. Since Traveler (and the 4 other Heroes I've created) will often want more evil characters in your territory, this gives you a way to protect them, while also putting them 'to sleep' (i.e., negating them while they're protected).

This is part 1 of 3. The other two parts are forthcoming, though one of the reasons I'm splitting those into 2 more parts is that I'm waiting for a certain word from the new set to become public knowledge. As always, feedback is welcome!

So you'd sacrifice SoG to use him in every deck? Or did you not notice that? That was one of the things I wasn't sure of.

I agree! John Martin has a lot of great "free" art. Revelation of John definitely has a JM feel!

Indeed! Looking forward to it.

I am glad it hasn't been greatly used up until more recently; just means the good art can go on good cards. ;)

Love these! Top-shelf! Crimson-clad Conqueror would be more fun imo, otherwise that card is mad baller. Yes, you have to give up SoG, but in return you get a 100% consistent attack. He'd be baller in T1 but in T2 I suspect I'd never run SoG over this guy.
