Custom Variant Card Submission/Discussion

Post your custom cards here or PM them to me to submit them for approval in the Custom Variant.  If I post them in the Approved Cards thread here, http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/new-card-ideas/custom-variant-approved-cards/msg464906/#msg464906, you can print them out and use them at the Custom side-event in upcoming tournaments.

I'm going to start putting down deck building rules for the Custom Variant.  Simply put, it's type one, but you cannot use anything from the Priests expansion or newer expansions.  If you don't like it, post why and we'll discuss.  To allow for orange or teal cards, here's the rule:  orange enhancements gain the identifier "may be played on any demon" and teal enhancements gain the identifier "may be played on any priest."

A quick note, since not all custom card will have a Bible reference, the O/N.T reference, that particular identifier is instead determined chronologically.

I think if you want this to be taken seriously, you shouldn't start out with approving a bunch of Halo cards.

I think Polarius is correct. There should be a set of guidelines for what cards can and can't be accepted. The guidelines would make the possibility of actually seeing these cards seem possible. This discretion would incline people to take the process seriously.

These three would be a good starting point.

1. several people being willing to vote a card in. This could be done by requiring a certain # of +1's on the card once it's posted on this thread.

2. Must be Biblically based

3. A card creator should let the card be discussed and tweaked accordingly based on suggestions in their original thread.
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

I see nothing wrong with having non-biblically based cards in a for fun, never going to be an official event, probably one time thing, category.

Yeah, I'm not saying they should be biblical-only. It's your deal, do whatever you want. I just wanted to make you aware that if people see that the first batch of cards are from halo, they'll be disinclined to take the project seriously.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

Well, that's what this thread is for.  First, the idea of the Custom Variant is to allow for more creativity than the core them of Redemption does now.  The only reason the first approved cards were Halo based was because, being the pioneer of the idea, I had those cards to put in.  No, the category is not official, per say.  John has, however stated that he will allow me to run it as a side event at his tournaments in the future.  The point of this thread is for discussion, as the title says.  As for the criteria, I came up with this as a way for people to try different ideas, and I want to leave it open to allow for that.  At this point, I will accept or reject cards on the sole basis of whether they seem too powerful or not (see my removal of the Halo dominant from the approved thread).  Submit, discuss, and have fun with it.  (Also, please remove your comments from the Approved Cards thread.  That's not what it's there for.)

You could always find a different picture for Paintings.  Pretty neat idea for it, though.

Witch has an interesting idea, gonna make a House at Endor fortress?  And why does she have the territory icon?

Magic Trick is also interesting, though you don't need to make the exception for Simon, since he was a magician anyway.

Greed seems designed to kill speed decks... consider a name that doesn't sound like it should be an enhancement.

And to everyone, something else that needs to be nailed down, the deck building rules for the Custom Variant.  Right now I'm thinking normal Type 1 rules, but you can't use Priests cards or newer, since from what I've seen a lot of the more powerful "immediate" strategies come from there, and this is supposed to be for creativity, not instant wins.  Feedback?

And while I'm here, I'll put up another idea;

Yes, TC characters is an idea Pol(?) proposed a few weeks ago. Basically the character activates as soon as they're put in play.

Magic Trick is also interesting, though you don't need to make the exception for Simon, since he was a magician anyway.
Once the card creator can handle bi-colored cards Simon is getting a reprint

Yeah, I've heard about that idea... but seeing how many characters are really powerful with their abilities happening in-battle, I don't think we really need that.  And what do you think of my Dragon card?

There's already a lot of CBN stuff.  How about cannot be prevented instead?

Its not bad as CBN because its conditional. Nobody would use a character that has to earn  CBP/I status. (well maybe CBI)

Well, just change it to one of those and I'll probably approve it.
