I wouldn't be surprised if I was ADD. I may not exhibit such behavior on the boards, but those who have met me...Man, I'm just now remembering the T2 only tournament a year ago. That was some night...I also have trouble concentrating on my homework, like right now. :P

ADD is one part psychosomatic, one part propaganda from the drug companies, one part excuse, and one part misunderstanding of creative people.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

Do you happen to have a masters and half a doctorate in Psychology?  Because I know someone who does who might disagree with that statement.

Psychology is a pseudo-science based on assigning blame for anything and everything wherever you don't have to be responsible.

What?  Some guy opens his mouth with an opinion, and you assume he's right?  From what I can see, Pol here has a bone to pick with a certain branch of science.  There is a world of difference between "assigning blame" and identifying the problem.  Einstein said that "If I had only an hour to save the world, I would spend 55 minutes identifying the problem, and five minutes fixing it" (paraphrased).  Psychology finds problems, but it's up to the patient to blame the problem, or take steps to fix it.
I myself was diagnosed with ADD from a young age.  I do not use it as a crutch, or blame it for all my issues.  Rather, now that I've identified what's wrong, I can take steps to make my life better.

Genrally most people who need a psycolgist needs Jesus or to get of drugs. Drugs are the cause of most mental illness. I also do not buy ADD or ADHD thing personlly but that is my opinion so please don't make anther debate on what I belive AGAIN.(All of this post was not meant to cause a debate so please don't debate me on this thread instead pm me)

And yet you've stated that you refuse to take the pills that could give you balance, contradiction no?

While I don't take nearly as harsh a stance on it as Pol (My Girlfriend is in Grad school for Psych) I do believe that alot of it is hogwash.

psychology isn't bad. ADD is questionable, but I think it's just genetics. some people focus better than others. I don't believe that it's an excuse at all, like some use it, but some people definitely focus better than others...

Yes, most need Jesus.  We've got a growing Christian counseling program at our church.  I'm going through it, and it's doing wonders.
Most mental issues do not stem from drugs.  Drugs do help exacerbate them, depending on what kind of drugs we're talking.
I do not take drugs.  (Caffeine being my one hypocrisy.)  This is a personal choice, because I do not want my perception of the world to be affected.  I am a very logical/realistic person.
85% of ADD/ADHD people respond positively to Ritalin.  Guess who's in that 15%?

Yup, ADD can be genetic, both of my parents have it.

ADD doesn't exist. not focusing well does, and that's often genetic.

A lot of people self-diagnose ADD because they "get distracted a lot".  This is not ADD.
Right now, as you're reading this, there's a lot of input coming into your brain.  Sounds, lights, touch, smell, taste.  There's a part of the brain that prioritizes which input to focus on.  In ADD people, this part is more sluggish than NT (neurologically typical) people.  So yes, there is such a thing as ADD.  This is also why stimulants such as Ritalin and Caffeine help ADD people, because it speeds up this part of the brain to normal levels.

Here is how I've always thought of ADD:

ADD is really just a lacking in a person's ability to focus. It's something that comes in many forms and degrees. Many genetic factors can affect your concentration. However, as far as I am aware, there's no gene that you can look at and say, "the carrier of this gene will have ADD," which makes it hard to definitively say, "This person has ADD and this person does not."

Environmental factors are also difficult to calculate. I think a lot more people today can claim to have ADD because of TV and video games, which do not require as much concentration as books do, thus making the viewer/player's mind less trained to focus. These obscurities make ADD an issue that propaganda can easily distort.

My personal problem seems to be kind of a case of "selective attention deficit," in that I am not able to focus very well on things I am not interested in (homework, reading, etc.), although I really have some trouble with everything (including Redemption and even watching movies). I think this has come from too much TV over the years. Poor diet and little exercise probably doesn't help, either. It's something I'm pretty sure my little brother has even worse than myself, so it may be genetic, although I'm pretty sure neither of my parents have it.

I'm not big on psychology myself, but let's keep things in perspective.  As a discipline, it is only a couple hundred years old.  Just remember where "hard sciences" like medicine were back when they'd only been around for a couple hundred years.  Give psychologists a few thousand years and I'm sure they have things figured out a lot better than they do now :)
