Title: A Better Counter to Exchange: Need Card Name and Verse
Post by: TechnoEthicist on March 25, 2012, 11:10:35 PM
After seeing the Finals, Gretel and I were talking about what the next counter that is needed, what about something that targets exchange cards.

Probably OP: All cards that targeted for exchange are removed from the game instead
Possibly Better: Any card with "exchange" in the ability are removed from the game after the target card is exchanged (No more recurrable exchanges...)

Fully aware many people would think about bringing back Covenant of Eden, but it's worth it :P

Okay card creators, turn this idea to something snazzy....should it be TC, Artifact, Curse, something else entirely?

Here you go :)

Sold to Live
Evil Gold Curse
Whenever a character exchanges with another character, that character is instead captured to your Land of Bondage.  The character exchanged for enters play or battle as otherwise described on the card.
Genesis 47:23 Then Joseph said unto the people, Behold, I have bought you this day and your land for Pharaoh: lo, here is seed for you, and ye shall sow the land.

This story involves the people living in Egypt and Canaan first giving their money, then when that was gone their livestock, then when that was gone themselves and their land in exchange for the food they needed to survive.  So, characters can exchange for what they need, but then they are captured (enslaved).

I think that wording could be much more concise: "When a character uses an exchange ability, capture it." I think that would do the exact same thing, except it wouldn't be an "instead" ability.

This might bring I Am Redemption back onto the scene...

I think that the ability should, in the end, capture the character.  I just wasn't sure if it could capture them after they exchanged, hence my attempt to use instead.

I think that the verse is perfect, the capture is perfect (not OP since it generates a soul for the opponent, and not too meek because it does stop future exchanges).  The wording to make them captured needs to be right, however.

I had thought of this same basic idea about a day before i saw this post.  the artifact i was thinking of making would be "Protect cards in play, deck, hand, and discard pile from exchange abilities"  this would stop AUTO, AwaSN, 7 sons of seeva, soldiers prayer, consider the lillies, and lots of other popular cards

I was thinking it would still capture, but thinking about it more, probably not. Maybe, "When a character uses an exchange ability, capture it from any location."

I think I'd rather have something like this:
"If a card would be exchanged, Remove it instead. Upon Activation, Discard Destruction of Nehusatan from Opponents Hand or Deck."
(lol on the second part. That's just for fun.)

yay, then I can abuse Nebushasban, Wanderer and Prisoner Transfer to remove my souls from the game.

No, that removes the card that would do the exchange.
