2022 T1-2P 2nd Place - Midrange Widow

(1/2) > >>

Kevinthedude:
This is much better than I expected to do with a deck I had so little practice with. I've been bouncing around various strategies all season and eventually decided to play Circus about a month before Nats but after assembling the deck in person for the first time the day before T1, I determined that I likely would not be able to consistently pilot the deck to victory. Shoutout to Jeremy for all the time he put into not just refining that deck but also practicing it enough to be viable under tournament time controls. After deciding to switch decks the night before the tournament, I landed on a more conventional style of Widow based on the variant JD and Luke Marshall had been running. Luke and I had a great time tweaking his list for an hour or two and ended up running card for card mirrored lists the next day.

My biggest regret was not fitting Great Commission somewhere in the 60. Every game I was behind and even some games I was ahead I found myself wanting just one more interrupt and additionally GC can be recovered indefinitely by bouncing Widow with Send the Helper. Matthew and Widow being busted definitely carried my results despite a lack of practice with the deck, I expect something to happen to Widow in the near future.

Red Dragon Thorn:
How good was Distressing People for you, and why do players continue to sleep on that card?

Hymn:
Are people sleeping on Distressing people? I have never disputed the power of the card. Fitting it in the deck is the primary issue for most. Supporting it can be difficult because pale-green is an unpopular defensive color outside of DoU and Scattered. Given the right deck. I can see it played more often. In this deck, it was splashed in and had the ability to use Invoking Terror. I can see a use case for it in many more decks.

Kevinthedude:
It was fine, I still would only include it in a meta where there is a turn zero dependent threat imminent, not just as a general valued/disruption/CtB tool. This deck has just enough ways of utilizing it for it to be consistently solid, namely Simon and Invoking Terror.

You seen Avengers? Where Mark Ruffalo tells his secret? There's always a turn 0 threat
