Title: Type C?
Post by: TheJaylor on June 30, 2012, 02:52:45 PM
We should have a "Type C" where everyone only uses characters and Lost Souls, no enhancements, artifacts, forts, sites, dominants or anything but characters and Lost Souls.

At first glance I thought that would be a terrible idea, but it might actually be fun. We should try it at Regs.

Alright, build yourself a deck and we can try it out. Anyone else going to NC Regs. is welcome to join us during free-time and stuff.

It may seem interesting, but there is no way it would work.  You'd have Offensive Band Chain.  Can you get your defense bigger?  Nope?  Well, here's your Soul sir.  Oh, I can get bigger?  You lose and won't ever get through.

Without enhancements, beyond the initial banding you can't affect the battle, and therefore it won't actually work.  You'll either automatically win each battle once you get your FBTN banding out and have Ahimelek ready to go for Goliath.

Like the idea, but it doesn't work with a game like Redemption ;)

What about TFG, KoT, and defensive banding chains? I'm sure Spirit of Temptation->Gomer->King Manasseh->Fallen Angel->Lying Spirit->Lot's Wife->Wandering Spirit->Panic Demon/Obsidion Minion chain could get pretty high. I know you won't exactly have all those but still, without enhancements, you can definitely do some damage. Against a Warrior-class banding chain you can do the old school philistine banding chain and end with Garrison or something. There's plenty of options with defense that FBtN banding offenses wouldn't expect to normally see, making it more fun and challenging.

If you actually have that good of a defensive band, then congratulations you just stopped all rescues.  Period.  Especially since you have no Wall of Protection and each player would steal the opponent's banding chain.  Now no one can get through, and no enhancements, fortresses, or artifacts can help you get past that.  All games would time out if defense actually does what you described, with no one being able to rescue 5.

The games probably wouldn't last long, but I think there would be enough strategy in deckbuilding choices to be at least mildly interesting. I'd say it might be worth a try.

I was under the impression we already had something pretty similar to this. I think it's called "Type 1".

This is about as deep as the mud puddle in my back yard.
