Title: Extreme Booster
Post by: Chronic Apathy on May 30, 2011, 09:30:47 PM
An idea conceived along with SomeKittens and several others (who I forget who they are) at NE Regionals this year. We decided we wanted to try making deck-building more-or-less full-contact. The way it works is 1,000+ cards are placed in a cardboard box. This cardboard box is then dumped in the center of a circle of players, who, on command, race to collect as many cards as they can to build their decks with. The rules are few and far between for this portion. No kicking or punching, but tackling and taking cards out of the possession of others is allowed and encouraged. After a predetermined amount of time (3 minutes?), the brawl ends and players make their decks using normal Booster rules.

Obvious dangers aside, this would be an extremely fun concept, would it not?

I think it was ArchAngel who first came up with the idea.  A card should be legal if someone possesses more than half of it.

Is it really going to take the agnostic kid to point out how un-christian this is? Cause it is...

Football is unchristian apparently.

Buy a couple display boxes of unlimited and prophets and do it! That would be so much fun.

Not too mention dangerous. :P  I am very large guy, you do not want me tackling or landing on you.

What about Bucklers and Coats of Mail?

You'll need either a lot of bandaids or lemon juice, what with all the paper cuts that will occur.

;)

Would this mean that gils would have an advantage since guys seem to very much against fighting girls?  :)

Depends.  There are three types of guys: ones that don't fight girls, ones that do, and ones that won't be grabbing cards.

I feel like you might as well just play football or something. I mean, it's just about who can steal the most cards.  :o

I was playing 500 cat fight (you can try to take the ball from, or tackle whoever has the ball) in the dark one night (not the brightest idea) and there were 2 girls playing, only one of the other boys was not afraid of tackling them, or anybody for that matter, and I am about 2 times his size.

We had a different name for that game back when I was a kid :)

And sometimes we didn't know we succeeded until years later.   ::)

Stamp, that's horrible. +1.

I remember being somewhere around 10 years old, and vaguely thinking that this word probably means something, but being too afraid to ask the parents what it meant, lest I find out it was a swear.

This would be epic... I say we officialize this event at next years Nats. We shall call it The Football Draft.

Ya its not a good idea for people who are like 10 and just started playing if a whole bunch of 20 year olds started pushing him over so he couldn't get any cards.

Hahhaa 20, try 40 year olds. Though I see a 10 year old and a 20 year old pairing up in this and cleaning house

Maybe at one of Wild Bill's tournaments. I don't think anyone else would allow that kind of craziness.  ;D

Good luck.  Rob's the only one with the power to do that, and I don't think he's changing much soon.

Not a good sign when I not only understand a reference from STAMP and Underwood, but also remember playing the game. Sigh. I AM getting old.

I'll need to talk to the NE Elders, along with whoever gets the Regional Tournament, but I may try to implement this in a non-violent fashion at NE Regionals this year.

to make it non violent [even though violence sounds great to me] you could make it where you could just slap hands or pull away the card or something. :D

Is it fair to assume me and Josiah (jbeers285) would have an unfair advantage being that one was a nationally ranked wrestler and the other an All American?

Oh I'm also 220lbs and Josiah is a bit over 300  ;D

Anyone still want to play with us??

(Chris, still remember the big boxing gloves?)
