Title: Spider-Man to Enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Yeah Sony still owns the rights to the character, but I couldn't be more excited that they are allowing him to be in the MCU movies.

Spidy entering into the main marvel cinematic universe was literally just announced today. Unless you work for Marvel or Sony you couldn't actually know this was happening.

Really? I saw an article announcing it in December, I think. Maybe it wasn't official, but it turns out it was right anyway.

(Edit: And no, I don't think I could find it, since I didn't actually read the article: I just saw it linked on Facebook.)

They didn't. They are allowing Marvel to use him in the MCU, but Sony still owns the rights to Spider-man movies.

Basically the second Amazing Spider-Man movie didn't do as well as Sony wanted, so now they want in on the money Marvel is making from its movies, and Marvel wants Spider-Man to be in their crossovers. So Sony is letting them use Spider-Man in their crossovers in the hopes that it'll make the next Spider-Man movie more popular and profitable for Sony.
