				Buy a mac.

Clear your cache. Delete files you don't need anymore. Etc.

 FTFY.
-
				Defrag the hard drive.

 Run Malware Bytes.
-
				Clear out your download folder.
Tell your computer to clear out all the temp files.

				Run Malware Bytes.

 Thanks for this, really useful.

I'm just curious, do you know what processor, RAM, and video card your computer is currently using?

I don't know about him, but my processor says "8088," the RAM says 16k, and I can't seem to find a video card, but my screen is all green and black if that helps.

I love my Kaypro II.  :D

All very good ideas to try first.  However, if you still aren't getting the speed you are expecting, a complete re-build works wonders.  Yeah, it's a lot of work, but boy is it worth it.  Just this past year, I've re-built our home PC, three home laptops, two work desktops, and 48 servers.   VERY noticeable difference in speed!  :)

I have no idea, but ill try to find out when I get home. I'm trying to fix it for my brother as a christmas present. He doesn't use it because its to slow.

-
How do Ifind out these thins BTW? I am not exactly a cmputer person. the extent of my knowledge is how to use them.

-
Start with Google or the web site of the PC manufacturer.

 Holy Crap.

Have you tried making new punch cards or maybe replacing some of the vacuum tubes?

Seriously though, there's not a lot we can do.
-
yeah, i actually dont know how bad that is. and really, punchcards and vacuum tubes would probabally make it alot faster.

-
Your computer has less ram than my calculator, this thing isn't salvageable.

Each of my processors 8 cores has 64 mob of cache, my processor has more Ram, what operating system does it run windows 2?
-
I know. The ps1 memory cards have more memory.

-

Some of my best memories involve that lappy.

I think I may just have to go back to it for awhile.
-
				have fun with that. enjoy.

-
I know you requested no downloading, but if you really want to try to get the old computer to be "fast enough to be practicalish" you could try a new OS (http://www.mepis.org).

Yeah, but from experience Mepis generally overstates the minimum system requirements by a great deal. I suppose there is always MenuetOS.
