The Capaldi era has officially begun!

I quite like his take on the Doctor so far. As long as he gets good material to work with, and no more slapstick falling asleep noises (seriously, what was that?), he will fit right in on this show.

I was kind of disappointed that the (probably) only time we'll get to see crazy Capaldi (the opening scene and the scene in the alley were priceless) was tarnished by the presence of Vastra*. All in all, though, I think that if he keeps on this way, Capaldi may well be my new favorite Doctor.


*I feel the same way about Strax. :P

Well, Series 8 has ended. Thoughts?

Personally, this was my favorite series of the reboot, and Capaldi is my favorite Doctor. I really enjoyed the focus on character analysis, rather than big over the top speeches and repeated catch phrases.

I was quite pleased that they didn't make this an "everybody lives" ending. Missy was not afraid to just off people left and right, and Danny, even with that potential deus-ex machinima portal at the end, stayed dead.

I also really like the Doctor's statement of who he really is. Just an idiot with a box and a screwdriver, passing through trying to do good things.

One big question still remains, who is Orson Pink? If he is in fact related to Clara... She could very well be in early stages of pregnancy in the last two episodes. But, she never got married to Danny... so how would Orson get his last name?

Well there will presumably be a Christmas Special like previous years, and most likely Series 9 will start sometime next year (unless they take a year off).

Lambo - I'm guessing they either forgot that they named the ancestor that, or they have some oddly convoluted answer for it. Simply, they could just say she's pregnant and for some reason someone along the line decides to honor Danny by taking his last name. It's not standard, but there are plentiful, believable explanations. I'm not worried and it doesn't break my willing suspension of disbelief. :P

All in all, I enjoyed the season. Capaldi has a very (Tom) Baker vibe. I will say that I wasn't terribly keen on the Clara/Danny storyline (Caretaker was probably my least favorite episode this season, because frankly, it felt like a soap opera), though it was an improvement for Clara as a character. I also miss the "everybody lives" attitude, where the Doctor would try to save everyone no matter how impossible it is/seems to be.
One question about the finale - how does Missy travel between the "real world" and the Nethersphere? My apologies if this was explained and I missed it, but she's seen in both (in fact, she's in the Nethershpere for most of the season). And if the Nethersphere is where people go when they die... perhaps killing her wasn't the end.

Of course it's not the end. This is Doctor Who, after all. Villains never die for real.

Also, I really liked Osgood. Her death was the biggest disappointment of the season.
