Title: Working on a Substantial NT Defense
Post by: Chronic Apathy on March 09, 2012, 06:02:35 PM
I've been playing around with a 15-20 card NT defense (including doms and support cards) for a while now, and haven't really been able to find anything with a lot of oomph. Any suggestions?

For something that size, Herods or Romans+Phars are your best bet. The only other options are Heretics (good only in T2) and Sadducees (good nowhere) unless you want to count Magicians as N.T. even though all their best stuff is O.T.

Told you defense wasn't gonna win Nats :)

Well, Romans + Phars would be a good defense to go with.  It would have a decent bet of stopping power, and a phar bit vIttle drawing.  This would have decent stopping power and have some speed too.

Herods however, would be the 'larger' defense of choice for me in terms of getting more blocks.

Your choice, Phars + Emporers would draw a fair bit, but Herods would probably net you more blocks.

Anyway that's my :2cents:

I have a student who has had a lot of success with a Babylonian defense in the size range that you are looking at (20 cards)

If you want more stopping power than that, you'll probably need a larger defense than 20 cards, and then you'll need something strong mixed with something fast.  2 single color possibilities would be Herods (strong) mixed with Egyptians (fast) or Romans (strong) mixed with Pharisees (fast).

Of course you could also mix 2 colors on defense and probably get something even better.

I'm throwing around gold/gray as Herods/Pharisees with some Roman splash. Thanks for the suggestions.
