Title: Silver/Green/Covenant Combo
Post by: dermo4christ on July 25, 2012, 08:33:08 PM
Hello all! Just a question.  I built a new deck after realizing I had an interesting combo in my collection that I never realized I had.  I built a mostly Angel deck with the following combo: Covanent of Eden, Midwives (SA- regurge all exodus heroes from my discard pile), and The Destroyer. I also threw in Angel of God to prevent human hero capture and to have another Exodus hero.  My question is does anyone ever use this combination?  And how well does it work?  I used it in my playgroup the other night and it seemed to work pretty well when I set it up.  Please let me know your thoughts.  Thanks!

It's a great idea, and I'd encourage you to make a deck based on it.  However, be mindful that it will be limited greatly if you concentrate on that strategy too greatly.  For example, Covenant of Eden is absolutely necessary to use this combo, which means (most importantly) that you have to draw it, then have it active instead of another artifact (opportunity cost), and it is also easily destroyed (especially once your opponent figures out what you're doing).

Also, while this is an excellent way to snipe the 'protected' EC that your opponent thinks are safe in territory with horses or chariots on them (or are just nasty in general), it only really works on decks that 1. run defense (less often sadly) and 2. leave EC in territory behind protect forts (many do that, but not all).

I'd recommend putting this in a deck that also utilizes Chamber of Angels, and has Angels with a human theme (Genesis works well with Jacob and searches, Exodus combines with Midwives, etc.).  Don't put all your eggs in that basket, because getting the combo out will be hard enough, and it won't work all the time.  Diversify a little, and when you pull it off, your opponent will be sad-face.

I liked the regurge part of this combo. :D

I don't know if they intended it this way or not but shouldn't The Destroyer be a Cost-Benefit card. Right now it's not but the ability is worded as though it should be.

Otherwise I think it is effective but you might as well go with the old The Destroyer, ET, AOCP combo which gets rid of all of there guys late game with I am Holy and you can just walk in with a small offense.

Yes, it is supposed to have that penalty if you use the ability, just like the Archers.  But it is not a 'cost-benefit' in Redemption terms, where it would have to have a "Do X to Y".  You're right on the intention (that you use it and then it is removed from game after battle), but it's not a technical cost-benefit ability.  The reason that you can't have that sort of thing on a character is that they would then remove themselves from battle, and unless that wins the battle (like Uzzah), the ability would make you lose automatically.  Not so useful.

I did throw in some humans actually such as Isaiah and green King Hezzy.  Unfortunately, I do not own CoA.  If I did it would definitely be in there.  When I get home from work tonight, I'll post the deck on type 1 deck thread and will welcome comments.  Thanks.

Don't have the old Destroyer.  But I have a different combo in mind for ET.  Haven't built that deck yet but I know what cards I need for it.

Don't know which "old Destroyer" you are referring to because there's only one and it's from FooF unless you're talking about Destroying Angel from Patriarchs which would serve very little purpose in the proposed deck.

The other idea is to use Chamber to kick him to top after 2 turns too, which is about the same speed as Midwives.
