I apologize if someone has already brought this up before, but I wanted to verify that this would work. If I play Molech Worship and Doctrine Like Leaven on a gray Pharisee or Sadducee, the ability decrease from Doctrine Like Leaven would be offset by Molech Worship allowing you to stay set-aside indefinitely and return an evil character from your discard pile each turn?
I realize that this would really only be useful in a Pharisee heavy deck, but it seems like a good combination especially since there are not a lot of “return from discard” abilities for Evil Characters, especially humans.
Any thoughts?

That seems like it would work, and could make for an interesting strategy!
-
are you targeting the same character with two different set asides? if so then it doesnt work

According to the REG:
Set-aside enhancements
A set-aside enhancement has the phrase “set a (type of character) aside” in its special ability. A set-aside enhancement can be played on a character of matching brigade in your territory during your Preparation Phase or Discard Phase. Its special ability activates even though it is played outside of battle. You may also play them in battle according to the rules of initiative. You can direct the effect of the set-aside card to any character you own and currently control. You may set aside a character with multiple set-aside cards if they are played at the same time.
Has this changed?

To my knowledge YES
Once you target the EC with the first setaside card, he is no longer there to be targeted by the next setaside card.

Yeah, that was what I was going off of. Is that not still an accurate ruling on multiple set-aside cards?
-
Here we go again, with "simultaneously." I'd say you can, as I haven't heard anything to the contrary. Does this mean I can Pentecost into Boat?

Yes--this was changed after the KC Nationals. You may no longer play simultaneous set aside cards. This was yet another fall out of the special abilities must complete set of rulings.
I do not know why this was not updated in the REG, but unless this was re-ruled I can confirm the REG is wrong.
If you want something similar, use Doctrine Like Leaven on a good pharisee (Gamaliel, Paul, or someone converted) who has been healed once with Backward Shadow, That does work (although you need to play DLL in battle).

I would use Doctrine on Saul/Paul as Saul first, then use Healing of Namaan to make him Paul once he is all used up. Then you can use Backward Shadow when the opportunity presents itself.

Thanks for the clarification.

Can you use Healing of Namaan and Backward Shadow on a character that is still set aside?
So you could play DLL on Saul/Paul, heal and convert him after ~10 turns (but you would have to use Healing of Namaan in battle correct?), and then play Backward Shadow whenever to keep him set-aside permanently (or at least until someone discarded your set-asides)?

Sadly, no. Neither Healing of Namaan nor Backward Shadow allow you to target characters out of play.
Kirk Dennison and I both built T2 never-ending Pharisee decks around this type of combo a few years ago. Kirk's deck was most certainly better, but here is how my deck worked...
1) Block with one of the 1/3 generic pharisees, and play Momentum Change + Just a Hireling. Discard Saul to shuffle in 3 LS, and let the generic guy die--returning Just a Hireling to hand.
2) After the battle use Healing of Namaan to heal Paul.
3) The next time they make a rescue, repeat generic pharisee + Mo Change + JaH, discarding Paul this time.
4) Heal Paul using Backward Shadow.
5) The next rescue use generic pharisee + DLL (setting aside Paul) + (of course) MoChange + JaH (killing generic pharisee).
I know this doesn't convert directly to T1, but hopefully it gives you some ideas to start with.

I remember the look of shock on the Orange one's face the first time I played ANB after Abiathar came back from set aside. :)
