I want to hear peopleās arguments on why one is better than the other.
I'm fairly prepared for most to side with Goliath over Neb but still think its a debate worth hearing. Any credentials you can think of are viable.
Ex: Offensive pairing, strength of enhancements, skill required to play it, overall character strength, and yes Goliath compared to Nebuchadnezzar.
(Keep the new cards in mind as well)
-
Babylonians. They have a protection fortress and Nerg and Neb. Game over.
-
King Belshazzar can search for Belshazzar's Banquet for name on name.
-
Thanks to the resurgence of Red, Babs by far. Nebby's far better than Goliath, as he can get your defense out (and it's protected!)
-
I've always thought that Babs were better so if they are why do so many people prefer Philistines?
-
They're smaller, rely mainly on character abilities and faster. They also can recur their best characters multiple times.
-
Philistines are better if you actually use a defense and not just 4-5 cards. Their characters are all auto-block potential, and they have tons of negates, not to mention Wrath of Satan.

The irony in this post is every one uses philies as a 4-5 card defense :p
-
Yeah, they're superior in small or medium numbers.
-
Iron Pan was a small step for redemption, one giant step for the Babs. I have to side with them. Phillies don't have mass capture ability like babs do. The aforementioned Nerg and Nebby are contributory to their superiority over the phillies.
-
Babs for ever!
-
We will have to see how it plays out. If I get consistently beaten by a Babylonian deck I will vote for them but my confidence is in Phillies now.

Keeping the new set in mind, I'd definitely go with Babylonians. There are too many CBN battle winners nowadays, and Philistines rely on negation too much. Babs now have three good init characters, and a reliable way to recur their best enhancement.
-
I'd say big defense: defiantly babs, but with 9 or less cards, I'd have to side with Phillies.
-
Babylonians are clearly stronger, but Philistines can get you more bang for your buck under 10 cards.

What does Nebuchadnezzar do

I don't really think this is true. At the beginning of a game against anything but a Sam deck, sure, but Babylonians I think can fit in more effective blocks at 6+ cards. Unless you draw Outpost really early with Philistines, or otherwise get lucky with Armorbearer and/or Goliath, Philistines are pretty impotent after the first few turns.
-
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand cue the JSB23 Necropost card.
-
Since Chronic already gave a legit response it might be interesting to have this discussion now that the new set is out.
-
Philistines have the big goliath/Lhami/Shaph combo, But there are a lot of good pink enhancements...Overall Philistines win.

Not if you playe with the Promo Goliath cause he stops all banding. Phillies are good when it comes to stoping Genesis and Prophets from my experiance. Babylonians are good with the rest. Overal all Babylonians when

I actually didn't realize this topic was from so long ago. Whoops, haha.

I would have to go with phillies here...not only do they have a protect fortress that holds Altar of Dagan, they have Philistine Priests, one of the most underrated philistine cards. I also think that black is stronger as a defense than crimson, with plenty of discard, interrupts, and captures(although crimson has them beat as far as captures). They also have Fallen Warrior and Philistine Outpost...if your characters die, you can choose which one is needed for the current battle. Even with red making a comeback, no one really plays those that remove and discard philistines, and if they do, Temple of Dagon protects them. Philistines all they way!

Temple is only for those in territory, so it is not that great. Plus with Babylonians you can make use of Raiders camp and possible discard son of God from your opponent's deck.
-
The new King Belshazzar (not actually a king, but the English version of the Bible makes it sound like he is one :dunno:) changes things quite a bit. For 10 cards you can have Neb, Belshazzar, Banquet, Imitating Evil, Torment, Dream, Swift Horses, Nebushashban, TAS and another card of your choice. This is superior to anything Philies can do with 10 cards.
-
Babs . . . besides AoL how are you gonna stop Neg with swift horse . . . its tough to get around

Nerg with Horses with Headquarters at Riblah in play even gets around Angel of the Lord.
-
For that tenth slot you're probably going to want Gold Cow or CoM to stop FbtN (Babs' achiles heel).
-
Literally anything prebattle vs Nerg. I'm still a fan of Neb + Belshazzar's or Leviathan (if it is FBTN).
-
As a Babs player I would say FBTN is by far there greatest weekness but at least Neb can search for another Bab and place it in battle.
-
Temple is good, because it helps against those characters who discard philistines such as caleb, and also protect those in territory against AOC. If it holds Altar of Dagan, it will also protect against holy grail, something the Nebby has to watch out for.
-
It's true that holy grail works but with a babs of decent size you survive it
Not to mention with the mass capture ability available to the babs you could capture your own converted neb and then shuffle souls into deck and u get him back
-
or just use invoking terror
-
I got to say babs overall vs each other but if you want best smallest Phillies!

with the Babs i used, it was a medium sized defence cause i had it with my disciples whisch had all twelve and most of their supporting cards. so my Babs werent very big at all. but becuse of the stuff i had in (astrologers, envoking terror, belshazzer{didnt have banquet tho} and a few others people dont often use like dream, christian sueing another, ETC.) i was doing pretty good on defence. kept professor underwood held off when he was using a strong deck at a torny we went to till the end(someone Jacked my Astrologers before the tournament or i would have locked him out) so i totally go for the Babs all the way. and my Babs could hold off a Gen offence very well. only reason i didnt win more was cause i couldnt get what i needed out with my disciples.
-
CSA and dream do get alot of play, maybe just not in your area.
Also for future reference it's considered bad form to necropost.
-
I've always had a soft spot in my heart for phillys, but Babs are probably better.
-
Babs are far better because of the new set.
But that's not what I'm posting. I'm posting to ask why this is stickied.
So.... Why is this stickied? :dunno:

Because a mod felt like it?

Strange Mods. Oh wait, I just said the same thing twice. Silly me.

what is necropost?
-
what is necropost?
Posting on old threads. It's generally frowned upon, but there's no harm done :)
-
Necroposting is when you bring a thread back from the dead, basically it's posting in a thread that hasn't been posted in for about a month or more.
As to the sticky, the best I can think of is that the first page is a good description of defensive theory for this game, it's good for newer players to read and the topic grabs the eye of newer players.
-
oh. ok. sorry.
-
It's ok man, the only way we all found out not to necro is by doing it and having someone tell us not to do it :D
No big deal!
-
Actually there is nothing wrong with necroposting if you add value to a conversation (which you did). The only time it's not appropriate is if you necropost with a comment like "wow, cool man!" that adds nothing to the original conversation. :)

In fact, I saw a good card when I necroposted.
Holy sweet Christmas...

What does Nebuchadnezzar do
If no Daniel Hero is in play, He searchs Deck for a Crimson Card and adds it to Hand or Battle CBN. He can pull any Bab, and if you have Swift Horses on him (the new one) he's worse.
