So, CoW-PoC is full of negates and other things that put a muzzle on Stoic Philosophers and Arrest in Gethsemane. You have to get creative to lock your opponent out with the combo now!
1. Activate Overtaken, attack with a hero w/ "negated" in the ability
2. Create a side battle, control your own Stoic Philosophers, have them survive - Stoic will be CBN when it reactivates in territory
3. When opponent attacks (or in another side battle you create), play Arrest in Gethsemane on Simon the Magician (TEC)
Lock established! You have a CBN AiG in a territory and a CBN Stoic Philosophers in your territory. Areopagus and/or Herod's Temple are also recommended.

(For extra trolling and lulz, place AiG in your opponent's territory, then set aside a hero w/ The Lord Fights For You ;) Ironically, TLFFY was the card I was trying to break when I discovered the Stoic/AiG combo)

Does this only lock out angels? or am I missing something?
-
It locks out SoG
-
Ah, but then you can't play it either. You'd want to play yours before doing this unless you specifically wanted to race to this combo and not run SoG in your own deck.
Does the CBN status really carry over after battle phase ends and Simon's ability is gone?

It does. The deck that made this combo popular didn't run SoG. It also won T1-2P at Nationals. Click on the link below for a modern history lesson. 8)

Thanks Gabe, were the changes to ignore or stoic philosophers put in place or just talked about?

The change to ignore was - previously ignore stopped even characters that were in hands from entering battle. We tweaked it so that it has to target, meaning characters from hand (and now reserve) could enter battle.
The Stoic change was debated for significantly longer and was not implemented because of future card design considerations

And hope they are not playing chariot of fire lol

Sorry Sean, I was operating on the assumption the readers would know about John's 2015 Nats deck.
The "lock" happens when you have a territory full of Silver sites in addition to AiG and Stoic.
