I was curious to see if anyone has made a high places deck that focused on using cards that prevent heroes from entering into battle? If so, does it work?

You know, there really aren't that many "place" disease cards. When HP first came out, that's what a lot of people thought it would be primarily used for, but I doubt a High Places disease deck would really work too well.

I did try a deck like this for a while at various sizes.  56, 63, 70, and 100 (to have doubles of key cards).  It was a fun idea, and I was able to pull it off as planned a few times.  However, it was consistently unable to beat top decks and players.  I'd be glad to share what I have, but I admit that in the end I decided that there just wasn't enough to make the strategy work yet.

Aren't these decks just hard because people hold their best heroes in their hand until making a rescue attempt?  It just seems its too reactive rather than proactive.  Am I making sense?

It was a combination of problems.  Opponent's holding heroes in their hand was one.  Getting "High Places" out fast enough was another issue.  Getting ECs of the right brigade to match with the EEs that I drew was a third issue.  Being able to do all this and still have the defense to make critical blocks against decks that got their offense fast was another issue.  Being able to stop enough of my opponent's heroes when they had a really big offense was another.  Being able to stop counters was another.

As you can see, there were a lot of problems to overcome in trying to make it work.

I assume you had "Self" in there?  Can't he place all of those EE himself?  (Of course he's a huge dominant magnet)

Not when he is chilling in KotW, were he should be at all times. The bigger threat to Self is simply suiciding or setting aside the copied Hero.
