Title: best small (7 or 8 card) blocking defense
Post by: cookie monster on February 04, 2013, 06:00:20 PM
I am making a deck with a large offence and do not have enough room for a normal size defense. What is the best 7 or 8 card defense? I would like a defense that is designed to block, not draw.

What is your offense? Usually, in the best small defense works with the offense. In general the best is probably magicians or Pharisees.

The meta defense of today do both.

He said he doesn't want to draw.

He said he doesn't want to draw.
Then it's most likely going to be bad.

Philistine Armorbearer
Goliath
Herod Agrippa II
Herod the Great
Gomer
Korah
Amalekites Slave

Siege
Haman's Plot
Herod's Treachery

I've never tried it myself, mind you.  But it looks fun, and the characters and enhancements are blockers, not drawers.  Plus you have a combo to capture their entire offense...

Maybe he's running a large Zebulun offense and needs to keep his hand small.  ;)

I am actually playing a mixed offence, Sam and Paul. but that is a pretty big offence.

another thing I should mention is that there is a herods temple in the deck, so I am thinking towrds N.T. and some enhancments.

Does the 7-8 cards include dominants or are you counting those separate?

Pharoah's Cupbearer
Pharoah's Baker
Failed Objective
Egyptian Magicians
Assyrian Survivor
Confusion
Death of Unrightousness
Damsel with Spirit of Divination
Magic Charms

That's 9, you can probably take out 1 card from the offense. That's 3 blocks and drawing to GET those blocks, plus the possibility of getting Son of God or New Jerusalem with Confusion. This was the defense in my Disciples deck and it hasn't lost a game.

If you're leaning towards N.T. Pharisees or Herods would be the way to go.

Pharisees: 9 cards
Proud Pharisee
The Entrapping Pharisees
Scribe
Generic Pharisee
Emp. Vitellius
Balaam's Disobedience
Night Raid
Tenants Kill the Son
Just a Hireling

Herod's: 8 cards
Herod the Great
Archelaus
Herod Agrippa II
King of Tyrus (wa)
Herod's Treachery
Escape to Egypt
Beheaded
Wonders Forgotten

These are just quick suggestions from the top of my head so feel free to adjust to your desire.

With Herods, you would also want to include Herod's Dungeon.

Failed Objective would be right at home in that defense.
