Title: RC! Platform --Temporarily Discontinued after July 2012--
Post by: LordZardeck on October 31, 2010, 12:43:33 AM

Redemption Connect! will be shutdown at the end of July until further notice. Please read details below..

Black Fire Development Official Closing Announcement:
At the beginning of June, Black Fire Development canceled their accounts with HostGator, the web host provider that currently runs the Redemption Connect! Platform. We have ported our client's accounts to new private cloud servers. Unfortunately the software platform that Redemption Connect! ran on under hostgator is no longer available. To allow for RC! to continue operation, much of it's code would need to be altered. In addition, due to it's sheer popularity, RC! consumes enough bandwidth and server CPU cycles that in order to continue it's operation, it would need it's own private server, which is a cost that Black Fire Development is unable cover. These factors combined have led to the decision to temporarily discontinue RC!

Currently we have plans to re-write the needed components and re-design the site. These plans including dropping many features until they are completely developed. These features include the Tournaments page, Playgroups page, Academy page, Card database, & profile page. When RC! is re-released it will contain the 2 most used components, RC Play! & RC! Card Designer. No future release date is known at this time.

Working on adding the image url's to the cards. Once the scripts are complete, we'll need some people to help manually enter url's in on the ones the script missed. Any volunteers?

Also: you might want to combine all these into one thread.

I mean that there's some significant work to be done.  It's still in alpha, of course, but there's no reason to enable the ability to search for a Crimson Hero.  Same goes for brigade of Artifacts, etc.

Also, it's Strength/Toughness, not Attack/Defense.

either a player vs computer game or player vs player game and there be difficulty settings, depending on what skill level you are

However, that is a decent idea to take Redemption Connect! and tie it into a game like Redemption Live!. That way you can use the decks you create in Redemption Connect! within Redemption Live! and share decks you use in Redemption Live! in Redemption Connect!.

To create a list, there will be a New List button on your account page. Then, while viewing cards in the card browser, there is an add button next to each card. When you click that, you can select what list to add it to and how many.

Title: Re: Redemption Connect! Alpha Registration Open!

If you've ever done trades in fantasy sports or the like, I think that would be a good model.  A checkbox that allows you to choose your wants from another player's list, then check boxes next to your cards.  Then have it create a trade summary for each player, cards to trade, value estimates, player addresses, etc.
Title: Re: Redemption Connect! Alpha Registration Open!

Okay, I think i see what you are saying. Here's what I was thinking: You make a want list and a "will trade" list. Redemption Connect will automatically search and pair want lists to "will trade" lists. How does that sound?

I'm not sure what the "edit" button does in regards to lists as it doesn't let me access it.  It would seem that "view" allows you to edit the list as well.  Is this what is intended?

Suggestion:  I'd imagine it wouldn't be all that hard to implement the code you used for ordering cards (by set, brigade, or type) into the actual lists and decks themselves.  I think this would be very useful to look at decks sorted in a specific way.  Along those lines, some people's want or have lists can get quite lengthy so it may be useful to include a sorting feature for those as well.  Perhaps you could also implement a reorder option so that the user can put their lists in a specific order (say priority).

Hope these have been useful!

The originator chose it to be in the Marketplace area.  We are expecting it to be of great help to players and traders as well.

Thank you all who have been supporting and testing this great project.  We anticipate full functionality and tweaks as we all make our contributions to help the programmer with the project.

Thank you, originator!

What if when viewing cards, it'd say what list of yours they're in? That'd probably be simpler. Just have lists "Box 1" etc., and then when looking through the cards, you could find where it is.

I think he's talking about within an inventory. For example, I separate my inventory in 3 Boxes: Good Box, Evil Box, And Neutral box. I believe he's wanting to label cards in his inventory so he knows which box it's located in.

Sorry about that. It was a bug caused by restricting access to only the owner, but it was instead restricting access to everyone. You should be able to use it now. By editing your list, you can change the name of the list, it's type, and wether or not it is public.

I just spent a few hours playing around with it and I sent a list of bugs/possible implementations to the email on the website. The bug site (ticket) was not anywhere on the page and forgot that this post was here. I do have a couple of other ideas as well as I was going to try and do something like this, but make it more of a search site than a deck builder/list maker site. I will send you an email with what I wanted to do and maybe we can update the search system to be like this.

Oh, and in other bad news, I was #15, but one of those is Lord Zardeck, so there are either 1 or no more registrations available.

Well thank you very much for your hard work! And for the fact of registration, due to the fact that there were already 4 others helping me pre-alpha, there will actually be 20 players listed when registration closes. So there are actually 5 more registration slots available.

Two more suggestions:
When I'm searching for brigade, don't include the multi.  That only makes it confusing.  Is there some way to change it so I'll see all Purple enhancements, regardless of other brigades on the card?
Also: Warrior class/Weapon class should be a tag that I can search for.

Post by: XeroSplash on November 08, 2010, 11:58:49 PM
Yeah, I've already talked to him about the brigade search and adding identifiers, but I forgot about WC. He did a lot on getting the add function to work correctly and everything seems to be in working order. So, adding cards into your deck or inventory will be much easier when doing multiples (I am a T2 player after all...).

So here's a poll: Which would you rather Redemption Connect! be? A single page app (similar to this (http://o.sitepen.com/labs/code/preload/afteronload.html)) or website-based app (like it already is)?

Single page, but quite a bit of thought and research applied to the UI.

I'm a fan of the website style approach myself, but if a single-page UI could be worked out, it would easier to port the design to a desktop RIA.

Thoughts on making my first list:
Features I'd like to see:
Search box, possibly with Google Instant
Search box/Add Selected look different, I've clicked on the wrong one too many times
Still doesn't like apostrophes
I really like the deck statistics.

Also, it crashed my IE 7 (I'm on a campus computer with nothing else)

I would vote for a web page like it is.

On a side note, I am having trouble with the list being updated when I make changes. It seems like the changes are not saved when I make them. Most of the time this happens when I am trying to remove cards from a list I have already created. I am really liking the searchability of the cards. Keep up the good work!

I was sooooo excited to see this much needed tool!
I do have a couple of problems using it though....

When I am viewing a card, and click "add" nothing happens

When I am trying to add cards from the collection page, the pop up seems to be cut off, and I can only see the top 14 1/2 cards, with no option to go to another page. What am I doing wrong?

You must add cards when viewing your collection or list. The add should not show up when viewing a card. Thanks for reporting this. I will fix asap.

Using Explorer 8 on my laptop
1366x768 (high res) 32 bit color
haven't had a bit of trouble at any other site

Also...when I do add a card, there's a pop up that asks how many to add, and it doesn't matter if I'm adding 1 title or 10, the user prompt only pops up once, and doesn't tell me what card it's applying that quantity to...buy trial and error, it applies the same quantity to all the cards selected. The cards also remain selected after they've been added

That is correct. The quantity you enter applies to ALL selected cards. However, the checkboxes should clear. I'll mark that as a bug.

Granted, IE is a horrible browser, but I still intend to support it due to the high number of users.

As I stated in the OP, I do not know when. I'm starting college in 3 weeks, so it could very well take years before I could. Then again, it could take 4 months. I have no idea. I'm the only real developer so it all depends on the time I can squeeze out for it, and if I can find the money to pay for the servers. I'll be letting everyone know when I have a rough estimated time, but don't hold your breath.

Yeah, so first off,  apologizing for reviving a 3-year old thread. I know this has long been dead, and probably forgotten. 3 years in july...wow. Seems like yesterday I was working everyday on this project, pushing the limits of my programming skills to create things that probably nobody needed for Redemption (Academy, QA, etc). A few features found it's way to regular use though (Card Designer, RTS Lobby). I still stand proud to this day though that popularity is what killed RC!.

It's 3 years later though, and I'm leading development of an online Christian curriculum platform (http://disciplr.com (http://disciplr.com) if anyone would like to see. We release Monday). It's been a long journey that has had it's ups and downs, and I have grown quit a bit in knowledge and expertise in my field. Which brings me to the reason I'm reviving this thread:

I want a fun project to start on to expand my skills. I believe this could be one of them. But I've been away for quite a while, and don't even fully understand the state of Redemption. Did someone ever write a better RTS client? Do people want an online card designer?

I am essentially asking, would people want Redemption Connect! back? If so, what would people like to see in it?
Title: Re: RC! Platform --Temporarily Discontinued after July 2012--

RTS has pretty much been replaced by a Redemption plugin for LackeyCCG (http://www.lackeyccg.com/ (http://www.lackeyccg.com/)). It provides a lobby, a Mac client, and multiplayer support out of the box.

What Lackey lacks (ha!) is a decent deck builder--and Redemption Live! is no longer being updated. So as a first step toward a complete web-based game platform, a card visualizer/explorer and deck builder would be nice.

The Lackey plugin online update site has access to all of the necessary card data, metadata, and images. If it would help, slapping an web-based API on top of that would require a (relatively) small amount of effort.

I would be interested in helping fund this effort. Would it be possible for decks made in RC! to be imported into Lackey? That would be ideal for sure.

So I looked into the data format for Lackey, super open, meaning all the data is easy to read and load. I will work on writing an importer of the data into a database, then mock up a deck builder. If any one has any suggestions as to what they'd like to see in the deck builder, i'd be all ears
