Title: Need help with playgroup decks.
Post by: Crashfach2002 on September 11, 2020, 01:03:36 PM
So I am looking for a kind, brave and slightly nutty soul(s) to help me modify and create decks for my playgroup.  I've posted on here about having "level" decks and "introduction" decks for my playgroup members.  Basically I've created a system that "ramps up" the difficulty of decks that new players play and I would like to have another set of eyes on them to help me access them and maybe find so good adds.  There is the possibility a couple of them need to be completely revamped.

I also have another "project" that includes a lot of decks I want to work on and build.  The reason I'm asking for willing volunteers is because these aren't "typical decks."  A lot of them have very specific rules that keep them from being "meta" decks.  So the answer will never be "needs more Uzzah/Wages/etc."  So if you have a free night or two a week and you enjoy deck building please let me know!

So I've inputted my "level decks" into Lackey.  I started to do the same for my "identifier decks" but looking at the first one I quickly realized I needed to update these.  None of them have a Reserve and I also need to add cards to them for the last couple of sets.  So if anyone is interested in helping out please let me know!

Do you have any restriction regarding those decks or cards (i.e. price wise or similar)? Or are there restrictions regarding other mechanics (i.e. no stars yet, no unity yet, no new Curses yet, ...)?

In general maybe starting with simple stuff in a lower level might be a good entry point (i.e. just taking from own Reserve) using the Gain Lost Soul. Another one could be Moses' Staff since it can also be used on Starter Moses or all the other variants and Starters already contain Plagues. Covenant of Abraham (PoC) is also a quite straight reserve card with none of the extra stuff (star, unity or similar). Also Covenant of Eden (PoC) might be viable. Besieged (PoC) also provides simple while quite wide Reserve access. Additional ones would be Cursed Ground (RoJ - fits to brown brigade of the Starters), same goes for Pillar of Salt (RoJ), Forbidden Fruit, Hiding Joseph's Cup, Delivered (PoC), The Bowls of Wrath, ... (I am just going through the cards in Lackey having the keyword "Reserve" in their SA).

Seventh Seal (RoJ) might be another one while it is quite specific already in what to grab from reserve - so it is already a little bit more specific. The capture&take characters from FoM or PoC would also be a good entry level (well maybe after the "plain" reserve access cards"), same goes for cards like Pharaoh's Daughter.

Hope this helps!  :D

So there are restrictions.  I have built all 12 of these decks with extra cards that I have.  I plan to always have these decks built so anything put within these decks will always stay within these decks, unless a new card replaces it.  So that does mean that if I add a card to it, I would need to put the physical card in the deck and leave it there.  I did think about the Gain LS.  I would have to start acquiring them and add them slowly, but I could make that work for now.  That also means cards like Wages is out of the question.  Maybe that helps?

Yes, it does. Well then several of the other proposals I made might also work since they should all be commons and I tried to identify cards which provide a basic and simple reserve access while not having other (newer) mechanics on them (like stars, unity, etc.).

So it looks like for the more simple decks, I'll be looking to acquire a Gain LS, Besieged, Covenant with Abraham, Cursed Ground, Fountains of Living Water, Darkness LS, Covenant Breaker LS, Foreigner LS for those as they are all commons and should be pretty easy to acquire and add to a deck.  Lurking and Storehouse could go in most and being a promo I might be able to acquire several of these just need to host several more tournaments.  Are there any cards that can fit in EVERY deck that would also be "easy" to acquire that I missed?

Oh, I also have these decks built on Lackey, so if you are willing to help me look over these decks and help me update them that is a way for me to show you other than a deck list.

Hm, what I did was just scrolling through the Lackey Redemption set of all cards while having a filter on them that says "Special ability contains draw. Then I started to scroll through the filtered result and checked for all the cards whether they would met your criteria or not. So I assume there will be quite some more, but I did not go through all of them. Just wanted to give you some examples.

Right, this is what I did as well, but these are the cards I saw that can be inserted in any deck because they don't require a specific color/character to be in play.  There are cards like Treacherous Land that would also fit, but it is a Rare and would be very hard for me to acquire 12 of them.

I'm still learning the game, so if you want someone to take a look at the introduction decks, I can give you a newbie perspective :D

So I've actually rebuilt them all.  Of course, I have no idea if they are remotely good or even too strong.  I do also have a couple of gracious volunteers helping out when they can, but if you feel like it might help you a bit too, I would love to try to get a few extra games in to try them out!

yeah I'll take a look at them. do you have the lists built in lackey already? i'm still dipping my toes into that program too, but seems like the general consensus is thats the best way to view decklists?

I have an hour or two some evenings (usually 10-ish PM) to myself so I could jump in for some games once in a while. I live in eastern time zone.

Looks like we are on the basic same schedule and time zone, just I'm available normally around 9 or so.

y

I had some help at first and we made some headway, but life got busy.  I also determined that between 4 beginner decks, 12 introduction decks then if you do a deck for each identifier then that is more than enough games to ramp people up.
