God Bless,
Daniel

does it envolve vampires? ::)

Nope
-
It's a space conquest game.
I haven't had a chance to play it yet, but mostly because it is an all-evening investment and that's tough to get rolling.

One of the best space games ever! Awesome board pieces...but it is expensive... :P
-
A Fantasy Flight game? Expensive? Inconceivable!
Next you're going to tell me it comes in a giant box or has a ton of pieces...

FWIW, this game is what put FFG on the map, and the designer (Christian T. Petersen) is also responsible for their A Game of Thrones board game and CCG, their WoW board game, Tide of Iron and the recent Starcraft board game.
Following that rabbit trail, the other designer of Starcraft (Corey Konieczka) worked with Petersen on Tide of Iron and the expansions for Game of Thrones and TI3, before going on to design the Battlestar Galactica board game.
These two, in my opinion, are an excellent pair of game designers.

TI3 is an experience. Political, military and trade all combine into a game to become the ruler of the cardboard/plastic universe. I've played a few games and each one has been totally different and extremely fun. I'd say you need the expansion for the alternate strategic cards because they lend themselves to more action than the originals. If it didn't take so long to play, I'd be able to get it on the table more often.

Have any of you had the pleasure of dedicating a whole day to this game? The first time I played all the way through with new people it took us 14 hours. That being said the game is rich in strategy, politics, and resource management. I look forward to the next tournament season so that I can get together with you guys who love to play board games.

Many good times in college were because of Twilight Imperium and its expansions.

Just taught a bunch of friends how to play. They are excited to play again!
