Title: Starting a ministry....sorta
Post by: crustpope on April 13, 2010, 12:54:32 PM
I teach at a public school and there is literally 10% of the school that plays Yu-gi-oh.  I started a club for them to play yu-gi-oh in the hopes that I could introduce them to redemption.  I guess I have a couple things I'd like for you all to do.

One pray that this is successful and that I am able to introduce redemption in a way that doesnt get me fired!

if anyone has any old yu-gi-oh cards that they arent using, if they want to give them away, I can take them and use them as incentives in my club.

Thanks!

This reminds me of how I started Redemption here at Oakdale Christian Academy.  Several of the students were already playing Yu-Gi-Oh, and so I started playing Redemption with whoever wanted to play.  Soon all the students switched games.

I would recommend that if you let them play Yu-Gi-Oh in your classroom after school that from the beginning that you also start teaching Redemption, and have that be the game that you play with students who want to.  Over time, more and more students will switch because it's always more fun to get to beat the teacher.

As you have students who want to switch, contact Ken Locklin of 3LG.  He used to have a policy that he would trade people Redemption cards for Yu-Gi-Oh cards or Pokemon cards (2 for 1 trade I think) as incentive to get people to switch games.  If he still does that, then it would be a great way to get them started without costing them a ton.  If he doesn't still do that deal, then talk to Schaef and see if he'll do that deal with Storehouse cards.  My bet is that at least one of those guys would do it for you.

Sorta what I'm trying to do.  At Master's Commission, we mentor at schools, and kids play Yugioh and Bakugan.  Since we receive federal money for our mentoring, we can't hand out cards as they're "Religious Documents".  What I can do is get cards in the hands of students who attend our church.
Make sure to keep yourself clean (don't preach to kids, etc.) as the devil will be waiting for a slip up.
