Since I already stored up this hornet's nest in another thread... Battleship Galaxies! (http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/93538/battleship-galaxies-the-saturn-offensive-game-set)
Hasbro has been publishing updated versions of a lot of the old Milton Bradley and Parker Brothers titles lately: Sorry Sliders, Yahtzee Free-for-All, Monopoly City, the new Risk, and now Battleship Galaxies.
The game bears very little resemblance to the original namesake. First off, it's set in space, which is a big wyn for me right off the bat. Instead of having ships in secret locations that you have to guess (and I guess eventually deduce), you each have a fleet of sculpted mini ships behind a screen, so your opponent does not immediately know your plans to deploy. When they do get deployed, they go to a giant hex board and move about. There are combat rules which basically amount to dice battling when ships get into range. What's cool is that the battle dice are a d10 with letters and a d8 with numbers, so you're still rolling things like E6 and I3 and whatever, and then consulting a grid to see if the ship is hit by the die roll.
I saw this game at Origins originally, and an advance copy ended up in the CABS (http://www.buckeyeboardgamers.org) library, so I've had a chance to unbox it and check it out. Looks great, love the new rules, can't go wrong with a space theme and sculpted ship pieces to move about.

wow, dude I went to the CABS website and then found myself looking at the buckeye game convention pictures. OH MY! I would be tempted to spend a billion dollars at that convention. I am a sucker for deeply involved historically based board games. My problem is that I cannot ever find anyone who wants to play them with me...

Come to the game fest. It goes on the whole weekend. We'll play 1960.

Seriously I would have trouble not declaring bankruptcy if I did that.
