Thinking about playing type 2

I have been thinking about playing type 2 for a while now, but I want to know how exactly it is different from type 1. (other than more cards in your deck and longer games ;))

It's a very different experience.  It's not just more cards, shuffling, and time.

Every battle is a battle, and you have a lot more strategy involved.  You aren't just blocking for the chump block or the draw on every single rescue, like the meta is so keen to do in T1.  You are often trying to set up long-running strategies, destroy key components of your opponent's set-up, and support your offense all while fighting tooth-and-nail for just about every rescue.

You have to keep track of numbers.  How many AoCP have been dropped so far?  How many of my battle-winners are left?  How many of my most powerful character are still in deck, and how likely am I to get them soon?  If he's playing with XYZ, then how many of his most powerful character might he have left?  What does he likely have in hand based on the specific character he is attacking with and the number of each battle-winners played so far?

The game is a constant chess match, with moves and counter-moves.  In T1, the whole point of who you pick to battle with is to accomplish one of these things: be small enough for first initiative, win the battle before they can block, be able to chump block, or draw.  In T2, I will sometimes want you to have initiative so that I can play my ITB battle-winner after you, and I will block with a bigger EC and force you to waste one an extra enhancement, if you have it, or just lose.  Other times I will want to choose to block by banding to your own defense to force tough decisions and set up my own rescue, even if I could win the battle other ways.  Often, I will attack with someone I cannot win with just to draw out some of your powerful defense for future devastation.

Basically, there is more strategy, so T2 can burn you out, but it is a lot of fun.

T2 players tend to be a little more laidback as well, we don't need no silly Top Cut tournament to tell who's the best :D Besides, where else can someone with 4 ANB in their deck get a target painted on them :P?

There may be some that are more powerful (and there are discussions of that throughout the boards), but honestly, I always tell people to go with what seems fun to them.  I noticed a fun combo for my first T2 deck, got all of the cards, and have had a blast with it ever since.  Not many people run what I do, how I do, but it works for me.

The best part of T2 is that, if you are good, you can make your own meta ;)

Some have been successful with Panic Demons...especially with the CBN banding of orange promo ones. I haven't been quite as lucky :P.

What kind of deck would be good to start with for type 2? I have been thinking about just having an expanded version of my type 1 deck (which is Isaiah/Assyrians) or making a genesis type 2 deck.

Here is a thread with lots of good suggestions for what to build as a T2 deck.

I don't disagree with the T2 comments but the blatant falsehoods about T1 is annoying.

I make my comments based on what I have seen played, and succeed, at high level tournaments.  Powerful offenses and lack of defense wins the day, and if a battle lasts more than one enhancement, it is an oddity, and that is just the way things go at this point.

I understand that this is not how all games go, but it is the state of the type in general.  I don't have anything against people who prefer T1, but these things are why I prefer T2 ;)

Outdated information. I've played highly interactive games of T1 at a high level since nationals and especially since the starters released. Also you can't get hardlocked in T1.

Hardlocked?  Not sure what you mean.

Also, until something overtakes the current way gaming is played at the highest level of tournament (and I don't see enough opportunities myself in the new set), I don't see how you want me to come to a different opinion about the current state.  But in the end, it is just that: an opinion.

The advice I took when I first join the dark si...when I started playing T2 is to take your favorite T1 deck and expand it to a T2 deck (as long as your favorite T1 deck isn't a generic speed deck cause defense is very important in T2).  Also, depending on your budget, it's better that you love playing with your T2 deck (even to the point of dreaming about playing it) so that whenever a new set comes out, you only need cards that will help that deck instead of being bored with it and wanting to try something new (which will cost you a lot to get a good new T2 deck).  I have had the same T2 deck for years and I still enjoy it (even though it seems that every set has a strong counter against it  >:( ).  If you do have the budget (or a goldmine of uber cards), then ignore the previous sentences and send me some of those cards :).

The best thing to do is to actually play on RTS with the deck you are thinking of.  This way, when you are set on your deck, you will know what to look for IRL.

You mean a defense where you have a ton of low init characters that all band to each other, and allow you to play the best (i.e. the chump block) enhancements of each brigade (of which you can have 4 of each, because type II), can be infinitely recurred (gates of hell/wandering spirit)?  Yeah, that works.
