Meal in Emmaus

Not an amazing combo, but it's kinda fun. It's not going to win many battles, but it's a good back up plan if you are using green and your rescue attempt goes south. It gives you the flexibility to not have YWR up all the time.

So, you walk in with a green hero. Your opponent plays something that killing your guy in battle. you can play meal in emmaus to interrupt the battle and activate an new artifact. The artifact you activate could be Burning Censer if you just want to negate something, or YWR/Boaz's sandal if you would rather have someone else in battle. Again, it's more of a backup plan more than anything, but it is a fun combo that makes use of an older card :) probably something good for the reserve if you are running those artifacts already.

I assume if you Meal to Shroud during your rescue attempt it does not kick you out since the rescue attempt was already started and thus you only get the beneficial side as your opponent can't attack you and you can just deactivate it on your next turn?

Still hoping for the rule change such that the default artifact behavior is to trigger immediately upon activation.  Then we could get rid of the errata on Holy Grail.

Why am I posting in this thread?

Meal in Emmaus to activate a non-errata'ed Holy Grail would be schweet.

I'd fully support this.

Unless I misunderstand you, that already is the way artifacts work.

Artifacts like Unholy Writ, I Am Healing, etc. don't.  I'm sure what EJB is referring to is the constant confusion on the "May be used twice" cards as some are used when activated while others aren't.  I would be down with something like this, but might cause an unnecessary errata or make a few useless.

Unholy Writ I believe is an outlier. Unless I'm mistaken, I Am Healing happens on activation and newer cards with instant abilities that don't specify when they occur (Censer and Image) happen immediately upon activation.

If it happens on activation, it is a terrible healing card, as (I would assume) most people want to use this in case their hero(es) are discarded during battle.

I think when it was printed it was intended to be able to be used whenever but when artifacts were standardized to be upon activation unless specified it ended up nerfed as a side effect.

If you want to be able to heal Heroes following battle, you should hold it in your hand.  :P

I know the reason that the Holy Grail errata was originally needed was because back in the day you could activate HG and then use its SA at any time during your turn. The idea was giving folks another AotL-ish battle winner was OP and, hence, not a great idea.

If that has changed, then let's remove the errata from Holy Grail.  Having a two-card combo that stops one EC doesn't strike me as OP--especially when one of the two cards is Meal at Emmaus.

I don't think anything has changed, it's just that in Justin's example burial shroud is a restrict which does not work retroactively.
