Negate lost soul opening draw.

Hello my opponent and I draw our eight cards and he gets two lost souls and I get one lost soul. We both complete the lost souls abilities. I happened to draw the SOG AND SC. Can I play the both of them right after the souls complete? It’s almost the same question as the hooper. If drawn opening draw can you SOG and win it?

•   Beginning the game: The player who draws the most lost souls in the opening draw of 8 determines which player’s lost soul abilities activate first. Lost soul abilities then complete in a clockwise direction (in the case of a tie, a coin flip or dice roll should be used).

•   Determining who goes first: The player with the most lost souls in his Land of Bondage after all abilities from lost souls have completed decides who will go first. In the case of a tie, a flip of a coin or a dice roll will determine who will choose the player to go first. Play then proceeds in a clockwise direction.

Dominants cannot be played until the determination of who goes first is completed. By that time, the Souls have resolved and the first phase has begun.

Yeah so in my case my opponent drew more souls after our initial draw. I then play both SOV AND SC and now the lost soul count is my remaining 1 to my opponents 0. Do I have the ability at that point to chose who goes first?

And can you negate the soul and win it? Such as the hooper?

No.

The player who draws the most Lost Souls chooses whose abilities go first.
The LS abilities complete.
Then the determination is made of who gets to choose who goes first (based on who has the most LS in territory after abilities finish).
Once that determination is made and a player is chosen to take the first turn, dominants can be played according to dominant initiative, but any souls rescued at that point would not be negated and it would not change who gets to choose who goes first.

So is the beginning of drawing eight and choosing who gets to go first considered a shared phase?

So just to be super clear you are saying you can NOT negate the hooper soul and win it if drawn the first 8 cards? I could promise on a different thread you said after it hops to your territory you could negate it with SOG it would then hop back to your opponents territory and the rescue with SOG

The last three responses on the post show this exact question. And it was never really answered.
In regards to the link.

I'm not sure what's confusing you.

You cannot play dominants until the first player starts their first turn.

At that point, LS abilities have resolved and the first phase of the game has started so the LS cannot be negated.

I know we discussed this as an Elder team, but I cannot recall exactly what our conclusion was in regards to playing dominants during the opening sequence (everything prior to the first turn being taken).

This is what was confusing.

You cannot play dominants until the first player starts their first turn.

This is correct. Prior to the start of the first turn of the game there are actions that take place, such as drawing to 8 and resolving Lost Soul abilities as well as things triggered by the Lost Soul abilities. But no player may play any cards, including Dominants until the first turn of the game has begun.

I'd suggest adding this to whatever rule book Jeremy quoted so as to avoid further confusion about whether or not dominants can be played during game opening.

•   Determining who goes first: The player with the most lost souls in his Land of Bondage after all abilities from lost souls have completed decides who will go first. In the case of a tie, a flip of a coin or a dice roll will determine who will choose the player to go first. Play then proceeds in a clockwise direction.

Is this also written somewhere / in some official document?
