Necromancer: "...Banish a human from a discard pile to copy the special ability of that human. Cannot be prevented."

1. Can Necromancer copy an ability like Job's wife or another  ftbn character, or would it negate the copy and therefore negate the fbtn?

2. If Necromancer targeted King Jehu (FoM), would the copied ability still work if it isn't actually Jehu himself?

I’ll also ask a third question, since it reads “banish a human” I take it can copy the ability of a hero as well?

1. The battle would be FBTN and Job's Wife would return to discard pile from the Banish zone.

2. Because King Jehu names himself in his ability, there would need to be a Jehu in play to exchange.  If Jehu was worded "You may exchange this character" instead, then you could exchange Necromancer.

3. Yes.
If creation sings Your praises so will I
If You gave Your life to love them so will I

If a card mentions its own name in its ability I believe that is exactly the same as saying "this card". That's why Uzzah has to discard himself and not just any Uzzah in play.

You’re correct, but so is Josh. When Necromancer copies the SA the ability is no longer referring to “this card” if it names the character by name. It can then be targeted by that name if one is in play. Keep those Uzzah in hand!

Cool, thanks!

I just noticed something else:

Syrian Archer: "May band to any Syrian Evil Character. May discard any hero in a territory but then discard Syrian Archer at end of battle."

If Necromancer copies Syrian Archer and discards a hero, Necromancer wouldn't be discarded, right? Since it names Syrian Archer specifically, and it doesn't seem to be worded as a cost-benefit situation.

Correct. That's one of those interesting interactions we looked at during testing. Because the "old archers" weren't all worded the same Necromancer interacts especially well with Archers of Kedar, Egyptian Archer and Syrian Archer, but not as well with Assyrian Archer or the new Persian Archer.

I was going to make another topic but decided adding it to this one would be better for streamlining. Anyways;

This came up in a game the other day. Basically, when Necromancer copies an ability, are any Unity clauses or other identifier "abilities" the copied character in question might have applied to Necromancer? I am of the mind that they are not, but I haven't looked into it that deeply.

For reference, the copied character was Babylonian Siege Army (Unity Evil Characters: Crimson).
If you were to go on a trip... where would you like to go?

Copying the special ability does not copy Unity. Copying the card would copy Unity.
