Title: Choose the blocker +weapon
Post by: sepjazzwarrior on January 12, 2019, 09:22:35 AM
If I have sword of the spirit on Ehud and choose and multi brigade ec to block, can sword discard that ec?

If I have sword on king jehu and exchange to Ehud, can sword discard the multi brigade ec that Ehud chooses to block?

Ehud-choose and make ec to block
Sword of the spirit- negate and discard a orange or multi brigade ec
King jehu-exchage with a non royal to discard a royal ec

I don't think so.  Weapons activate before character abilities that add a character to battle.  Thus the sword's discard happens before Ehud chooses the blocker.

4. Activate all abilities on any equipped weapons EXCEPT those with effects that add a
character to a battle.
5. Activate all abilities with effects that add a character to the same side of battle. This includes
steps 1-5 for all new characters added to battle, in the order added.

I think the king Jehu exchange lets you kill them if they are royal though. Because of King Jehus ability.

This is how it was ruled at Nationals but I do remember hearing some dissent about it. I believe the argument in favor of the ruling was that the exchange in Jehu's ability doesn't complete until Ehud's ability completes and the exchange is the cost for the benefit of discarding.

So I'm assuming any weapon jehu was holding would also activate after the choose the blocker ability?

Weapon abilities activate before character abilities that add new characters to battle.
