Title: Booster Draft Lost Souls
Post by: Crashfach2002 on January 22, 2019, 11:41:44 AM
So at the 2018 National Tournament it was said that the rule book states to bring 8 non-special ability Lost Souls to a booster draft.  Most people (including myself) didn't know that it was supposed to be 8 and only brought 7.  So since I'm currently going through my non-SA LSs, I would like to know if I HAVE to package them in packs of 8, or if I choose to bring only 7 I'm only "handicapping" myself.

I’ve never brought more than 7. You just have to have enough for a legal deck. If you don’t bring 8 you can’t buld over 56.

I'm going to go around and DQ everybody that only has 7 souls.   :police: ;) :D :police:

I’ve gotten into habit of bringing 7 NT and 7 OT in case of abilities that matter for each so I can choose which to use based off what I end up drafting.

I used to always pick the souls after and only would consider using eight if I drafted another soul. I think at Nats we were supposed to pick Souls ahead of time which I guess is the current rule? As a result I've just been bringing four NT and four OT and maybe switch it up depending on what packs are being drafted.

I’ve always been super flexible and been totally ok with Kor’s choice.  But, that isn’t acceptable according to the rule book, as Jaylor stated.  The reason for me asking is because I will enviably have to supply some lost souls at Nationals and I’m going to be providing 7 of the same generic lost souls unless told otherwise, and if not told otherwise we need to adjust the rule book.

I have a begun a discussion among the Elder team regarding LS for closed deck categories so hopefully we'll have an official answer soon.

Sounds good!  Thanks for addressing this!

The Elder team is in agreement that this wording will be updated in the tournament guide to indicate that players should bring a minimum of 7 generic Lost Soul cards for Booster Draft, but they may bring more if they wish to have a bigger deck, OT/NT options, etc.

Tournament hosts can also choose to provide generic LS, but it will not be a requirement.

Excellent!  This I feel is the best option.  Thanks for the discussion!
