In booster drafts are you allow to make a reserve?
-
Yes sir. This is a relatively new rule.
-
thank you
-
You can also have a Reserve in Sealed deck now as well.
-
The only requirement is that there are at least 2 packs that are RoJ or more recent that are used.

This does bring up an interesting question. Does this requirement require everyone to TAKE two packs with reserve access (RoJ, FoM & PoC), or them just being OFFERED? So with Sealed being a game mode where you only get two box packs now, if someone CAN pick the new 3 sets, but chooses to take say 1 CoW and one of them, or 2 CoW, does that keep everyone from using a reserve?

Isn't the Reserve still optional to use? Even if I did have packs allowing access I could choose not to use it. As long as all players are allowed the same pack choice opportunity, it still remains their choice.
Godspeed,
Mike

Technically the Reserve is not optional. What is optional is how many cards you put in it to start (anywhere between 0 & 10). You always have a Reserve, even if there are no starting cards in it (since cards could end up in it during the course of the game).

All these technicalities... ::) I am glad someone keeps track of them. All funnin' aside, you can choose to place cards in the Reserve or not, as long as all players are offered the same choice of packs, if more than one are offered in Sealed, I don't see an issue.
Godspeed,
Mike

When did this change occur? This line is in the UPDATED host guide under closed deck and booster draft:
- Closed deck categories do not use the Reserve

Beginning May 26th, 2017 players may begin using the Reserve in tournament play. The Reserve is used in both constructed and limited formats (effective January 1, 2019) only used for constructed events (Type 1 and Type 2). As a reminder, here is how it works:
- The reserve must contain between 0-10 cards.
- You must have a written list of the cards in the Reserve for each deck.
- Your deck + reserve must be a legal deck (ignoring Lost Soul to deck ratio rule as it applies to cards in the reserve).
- If you check in more than one deck, each deck must have its own Reserve.
- You check in the Reserve with your deck at the start of the event.
- At the time it's checked in, the reserve cannot contain Dominants or Lost Soul cards (the “Hopper” Lost Soul does not count towards Lost Soul deck building requirements and may be be included in the reserve).
- The Reserve is kept separate from your deck during game play.
- Each player's Reserve may only be viewed by the owner unless a special ability allows another player to view it.
- Only cards that specifically mention the Reserve can target cards in the Reserve.
- Your deck and reserve must be reset to their original state after each game.
We want to make this as clear and easy as possible for players and hosts alike to adjust to this deep new area of strategy that we've added to the game. If you have any questions or suggestion please feel free to leave them below or contact myself, The Guardian or Red Dragon Thorn directly by private message.
