Title: Animal gender
Post by: sepjazzwarrior on January 12, 2019, 02:59:22 PM
Is there a way to tell if a animal is Male or female other than looking them all up? I know all demons are Male except for the 2 from angel wars that arent, is there a similar rule for animals, like fore fox, that dont say gender?

IIRC, animals are based on the art, and male if it's unsure. So Lions (CoW) is genderless because the art is both male and female, but Negrev Lions (PoC) is male because the lion in the art is male.

I thought if there were no gender clues then they were considered Genderless. The Bear (while a beast and not an animal) is considered Genderless because there is no clue to its gender.

Also ORDIR has the description of gender, including a list of Genderless characters, and Fire Foxes is indeed genderless.

IIRC animals gender is based on the art and scripture. Some animals, like the lions mentioned above, are obviously male/female. Other times the art doesn’t give a clue, like Fire Foxes. Sometimes the scripture refers to the animal in the masculine or feminine, like Leviathan.

The methods used to determine gender aren’t just limited to animals, it’s used for all characters (Faithful Servant promo anyone?). Animals are just less clear than most people.

In he case of Fire Foxes, and many other animals, we cannot tell using the above methods. Since they can be both male and female they are treated as genderless.

I demand a Two Bears reprint with the same Special Ability but also half crimson EC. Are there any other female animals?
