Official Sign-Ups Are Now Closed - If you wish to be an alternate if someone drops out (quite inevitably), post here. You'll receive a PM if we need you.
What: A single-elimination T1 Redemption tournament.
When: Begins Monday, July 15th, and lasts until the tournament finishes.
Where: On your computer! Matches should be held on RTS (though if you want to play in person, feel free).
Why: In the absence of a ROOT tournament, some people might want to test the field for Nats - This is an opporunity to do so.
The winner of the tournament will win $15 in credit towards Cactus Game Design!
Ground Rules:
- You must register before 11:59pm EST on Saturday, July 13th.
- You may play your game as soon as your opponent is set - no need to wait for formal rounds to complete.
- Games should be played within four days after both opponents are set. If there are problems, the person causing the delay will forfeit. If it is both players, the person with the highest differential will move on to the next round (so please record your differential after each game!)
FAQ:
Q: What if I want something that costs more than $15? Can I put it towards something bigger?
A: Yes! If you would prefer that I PayPal the money, I can do that. All I ask is that you give that money directly to Rob via purchasing Cactus Game Design merchandise.
Q: But wait, if you (Chris) are playing, how can we trust you to run the tournament fairly?
A: If I somehow manage to win the tournament, the prize will go to second place instead. With that in mind, I have no incentive to cheat or rig the tournament in any way.
Q: Is there a limit on how many people can join?
A: No. The more the merrier as far as I'm concerned.
Q: How will bracketing work?
A: All brackets will be randomized, including byes (if needed). Otherwise, it will utilize a standard single-elimination bracketing system.
Q: Is there any kind of fee to enter?
A: Nope, this is totally free.
Q: Where is the money coming from?
A: My own pocket. I wanted to incentivize people to play, and $15 isn't too much to me, so I figured, "Why not?"
Q: Are there any other prizes?
A: Possibly. Depending on how much I end up having to spend out of pocket for school, I might be able to include a prize for second place or one random prize for an entrant. This is pending.
Q: Are there any rule changes from standard play?
A: The only change being enforced is that time limits can be waived if both participants agree to it. If there is any dispute, the time limit is the standard 45 minutes. Otherwise, no, all rules are standard.
I'm sure I missed things, so if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Shouldn't you close the entrance at like, 16? If we get an odd number, some people could cry foul due to byes, etc.

If people decide to complain about possibly getting free money, I'd be happy to give the free money to someone else. :)

Random seeds.

I'll play.

We are at exactly 16. It would be balling if no one else joined and this math worked out perfectly :)
-
I only count 15 - but I make 16. :)

I count 16 with Kirk. That's good enough for me.
Signs Up are Closed - Bracketing Will Be in Place Shortly

I would suggest that you NOT close sign-ups and let a couple people become alternates. It is almost for sure that someone who thinks they will be available that day will end up being unavailable. When that happens, you'll be glad that you have a couple people to plug in the holes.

FWIW, this is not a single-day tournament, and I'd be pretty confident that everyone who signs up is able to the one game required to participate. And alternates after the first round would be like giving certain people byes, so I'd say it's probably best to have people just let Chris know if they all of the sudden become busy...if it is enough time to find a replacement, great, else the person bowing out will just have to forfeit.

Chris what are the rules for Haman's Plot and multiple decks?
-
I added something at the top of the first post.
I don't care if people use more than one deck per game (since I can't enforce that anyway), but I'm going to say one Plot rip total. I'll have something for that in the competition topic that will be up in the next few days.
