I haven't played ROOT in awhile (which I assume is where we're basing the rules/time limits on) so could you refresh me on the time limits/special rules/etc. for this tourney?
Would it be possible to include more matches in the later rounds to determine the exact placing of the sets, and to give people who chose the weaker sets more chances to play? As in, matches between the players who lose two matches just to get a final ranking.
Derp, I don't remember there being time limits in there but I'll look again, thanks. :)I haven't played ROOT in awhile (which I assume is where we're basing the rules/time limits on) so could you refresh me on the time limits/special rules/etc. for this tourney?
All the rules are laid out in the registration thread.
Can we hold off posting who wins for a bit. I'm trying to fill out a bracket now that I know who's playing who.
Also, am I misunderstanding how it all works? It looks to me like if RDT and I win the first round that we'd play in the winner 2nd round and TSE & Wyatt would play in the loser 2nd round. But then if I beat RDT and Wyatt beats TSE, then wouldn't Wyatt at RDT play AGAIN in the loser 3rd round? Do we want to repeat opponents like that?
It wouldn't have to be. We could invert the 3rd round losers so that they'd have different opponents. I'd have to work out the brackets farther, but I can probably ensure that no one plays the same opponent untilDo we want to repeat opponents like that? That's how double elimination works.
it was a lot closer than it seems.Agreed. It was a really fun game, and tse played really well with what he had to work with :)

As for repeating opponents, that is inevitable in any double elim tournament, no matter how you work it. Whether the repeat opponents are in the third round or the fifth, they will happen. You are welcome to propose an alternative bracket, but I make no promises about implementing it. :)I think repeating in the 6th round is better because there will be less repeats. And for being able to tell which sets are best, having less repeats in the earlier rounds (when there are more decks alive) is a good thing.
I think that should keep people from duplicating opponent's until the 6th round.

Would it be possible to include more matches in the later rounds to determine the exact placing of the sets, and to give people who chose the weaker sets more chances to play?I was looking at the brackets, and think this would be pretty easy.
what'll happen if I can't get my game in for first round? will I auto win, or wait to play my guy?

I could take this spot and build a deck if i have a day or 2?
After playing the two games with Patriarchs, I came to what I feel is a reasonable conclusion:
While at face value, having all of the best defensive enhancements in the game (Haman's Plot, Death of Unrighteous, Balaam's Disobedience, Gibeonite Trickery, All the Interrupt/Remove) seems good, in practice I rarely had initiative to play them, and never actually drew any of the interrupts. Furthermore, the characters both offensively, and defensively are just downright atrocious. When your best rescue is Ehud+Cov/W Noah or Enoch+Blessings/Patriarch Travels, you're in trouble.
My game against Priests was lost on account of never drawing an EC, and then having plenty of souls for him to rescue. any of the 3 12 defense Demons is enough to stop most everything the Patriarchs offence can do - Especially if the Demon is Prince of This World, and the Patriarchs player can't find Travels.
Against TxP the problem was similar - Philistine Garrison is capable of defeating almost anything the Patriarchs can throw at it - To make matters worse Outpost can recur him even if I do manage to do something tricky like Enoch+Cov W/ Salt + Blessings
Admittedly, I was playing Patriarchs at 154 - However, I don't see this as a truly bad decision, I'm not racing for Dominants (Oddly enough I drew DoN in both games, though I didn't need it) so essentially I'm just playing 3 of each card in a 50 card deck, Perhaps I would have been slightly more consistent at 50-56, but I'm not convinced I would not have run into the same problems.
Had I played a set without an Immune to Lone Heroes character in the first two rounds, I don't think I'd be done yet.
Game C: I'll be ghosted by jbeers285. We both figure I would've won anyway.
This is a clear overrating of PA and underrating of TxP because RDT is one of the best players I have faced.First of all, I'll try not to take that as a slight, considering you played me last round :)
I was able to build my deck if my opponent is readyI agree that it is better for these games to be played rather than just ghosted. However, I'm not sure that it is fair for someone to be playing 2 different decks in the same tournament. Maybe it would be better if RDT took over Jbeers' spot (since PA is eliminated now). That's still not as ideal as a completely new player who hasn't seen anyone's deck yet. However we might have to take the best option available. What do you think Prof A?

Second of all, I'd just like to point out that I called TxP being underrated, and some people gave me some good-natured grief about that. Considering that TxP just took out AP (which was ranked as high as 3rd place by one player), I'll consider that some vindication :)I was able to build my deck if my opponent is readyI agree that it is better for these games to be played rather than just ghosted. As the person who has to play the winner of the C game I would very much like to see this game played out!!!! I personally think C/D has a very good chance if they deck build smart and play their cards right.
If its not a conflict of interest I would be more then happy to volunteer myself, build a deck and play in place of Jbeers.
If you win round 1 you would be facing yourself tho...;D
Any updates on the C game?
Just because I am curious... if you had played the game till the end would the result still have been the same?I would not have gotten more than 2, he might have been able to get more but I think he was also stalled out.

This is correct we discussed out decks at regionals and i believe the only successful rescues I could have gotten would have been AotL and SoG. My only hope was to lock him out with 2 sites and burial but he planned on playing soul gen which I could not have stopped.
Chris and I played our game before broward and I played just in case and he won 5-4
E/F wins against AW 5-1
There were zero blocks the entire game.
I would like to point out A/B lost because of a early game Zimri.... the decrease a hero 0/6 guy... remember no heroes except Jeremiah were printed with a defense higher then */6 until Warriors.
Don't forget Jochebed...Jochebed was the bane of my game with RTSmaniac. Ignoring Egyptians meant half my defense was useless against her for that game.
I/J won 5-2. A combination of droughting and superior cards clenched it early on.
Wyatt won 5-3. EF out.
I beat Westy. 5-3. very close.
I already reported. I beat Westy.Wyatt won 5-3. EF out.I beat Westy. 5-3. very close.
Are the 4 decks that were eliminated after Round 2 going to play a final 2 rounds to put them in order from #13-#16?
RoA (_JM_) - 5Agreed. I knew it would be a tough matchup going in, and JM certainly made it live up to it's potential. It was a nail-biter the whole way!
FoOF (Prof U) - 4
very, very good game.

EDIT: I'll be at Creation the rest of the week, so I won't be able to play my next game until Sunday evening-ish.
Bumping.
I/J wins 5-1
C/D brings down Disciples thanks to a very late Fishing Boat that allowed Molech Worship to create a 22/23 Job's Wife.Dang.
i thought great image was in prophets?
I could be wrong, but I think that Wyatt lost his internet access.
I would be willing to jump in.
Temporarily, or permanently?I don't know, but I'll probably know by Fri.
I'll send him a PM, and if he doesn't respond by Friday, then I'll let you take over.Sounds fair :)
Actually, I just found out that I'll be going out of town early tomorrow morning again and won't be back until Sat so it would be great if we could play tonight. Hopefully that works for you guys. Thanks!Sounds good. How about if we plan on about 9pm EST (8pm your time)?

Unfortunately Wyatt and I can't both play on my computer at the same time, so now he's making a paper version of his deck as am I. We'll try to play tomorrow or the next day. Then the winner should be able to play the "other" Prof around the end of the week.

Yep. I forgot to post here that I beat Wyatt. I'll be bringing my T.O.S.S. deck to Nats with me in case I can play live with anyone there.
Since Jordan's not coming (and he's my next opponent), I'll try to be around tonight to play him online if that works for him.

I can try to be on as well, but it will likely have to be pretty late (after 10:30-11:00 CST). Otherwise I won't be available probably until next Thursday. If you do happen to run into JM at Nats, feel free to go ahead and play your game even if we don't get to play tonight; as I'm not too confident that I'll be able to pull off another upset. But hey, who knows?

If you manage to get through both of them before Nats, I will be there and could play there.I see VERY little chance of me getting in two games tonight, and am not very confident that I'll be beating JM anyway since he's already beaten me once this tournament. However I'd love to play vs. your IJ deck at Nats anyway for fun. And then if I do end up making it to that point in the bracket we'll already have it played :)
Resurrecting because I would love to see this get finished.
I've never heard from either Prof looking for a title game match, so (officially) nobody yet. I know I clean forgot about this, though.
I never got a chance to play Prof U. I do want to finish this at some point (I still have the prizes); maybe I'll have to see if the other Prof is available soon.I had completely forgotten about this, but I'm still up for finishing it up. It would be best for me to do it in the next 6 days (before school starts back up). Let me know when's good for you.

I am somewhat available Monday night, but am pretty busy the rest of the week.I've been busy the last couple days (and naturally I will be tonight as well), but after that I should be free late at night most nights. So just let me know when your schedule opens up again.
