Is it possible to use RTS, RC, etc. on a tablet to play Redemption online?  I have considered getting one, versus a new laptop.

Sorry, RTS does not work on tablets. It also appears that like it's predecessor, Redemption Live (when it is ccmplete), won't work on tablets. We need an app for that. :)

You can use Silverlight to run Redemption Live on Win7/8 tablets.
You might be able to use Moonlight on certain tablets.
