i think deep down everyone is gonna call the thing "RTS" even when it's not.
That reminds me of a little corner gas station/food mart where I used to live.  It was called "Pa's".  Then got bought out several times and went through several name changes such as "Clucker's", "Wilmore Corner Market", and I think a couple others.  But all the locals still called it "Pa's" for years :)

More on topic.  Since Mike is working on this on his "free" time.  Can we expect that Redemption Live will also be free?

There was nothing official announced about what Redemption Live is going to cost.  Mike mentioned that he was looking into hosting options for the website and the database.  It's also going to require enough bandwidth that several players can connect at once.  That kind of stuff isn't cheap though so it's bound to cost somebody something.  I don't see any reason that the cost shouldn't be passed along to those that are using and enjoying the program.

I agree.  and unfortunately, the cost will probably be pretty high since there wont be very many people playing it as compared to other live online games.

I agree that it makes sense for costs to be passed on to the people benefiting from a product, but.....

there will be a lot of people like this who will have a hard time paying money for something that they can get for free (even if the new version is better).

The amount of resources needed to accommodate the number of players who would be using this would be far less than say the resources needed for Xbox Live to operate. I don't know anything about it other than what I've read here, but it seems logical that there wouldn't be much reason to design the program if the resulting costs for people to use it are not reasonable.

All I have to say is, I cannot wait for a way to play some T2 MP online in a reasonable amount of time.  ;D

I'm pretty sure Mike mentioned to me that he was considering a pro paid model.  So, some features would be free, but if you wanted a few pro features, then you could pay.

i don't think multiplayer and teams as extra features would be a good idea
cause for one i'm dying to play a game of teams redemption and play multiplayer online without using instant messager. and putting them as extra features would just make me not wanna get it and stay with RTS

That didn't make any sense.

You really want to play teams and multi without IM, but you don't want them in Redemption Live and would stay with RTS, where you can't AL ALL do teams or multi?

Since Cactus hosts these boards, their website, and their webstore, they must have a server or two.  Why couldn't Cactus host Redemption Live?  I bet that would cut down on costs.  Maybe the next starter deck could include a web code for 14 days free of Redemption Live.....  Maybe that's the future of UPCs!  A UPC grants you like a week free of Redemption Live!

I think this is a great idea.  I would suggest that the free model include T1-2p, T1-mp, Closed Deck, TEAMS, and maybe Booster, as they seem to all be very accessible to newer / younger players with smaller budgets.

I would suggest T2-2p, T2-mp, and maybe Booster be in the pro paid model.  These seem to be more the domain of the long-time players who generally have larger sources of income.

Or better yet, a Thesaurus box...Except then everyone would have to destroy their TexP box towers...
I like this idea, since there isn't any other use for the TexP UPC's.

Well a way to do it could be you send whoever $20 for a year (thats probably pretty low I'm just using a random amount) and a little status is put next to your profile and itsayspro playerand that lets you use the pro model......I'm sure most everyone her could swing $20-$40 a year right?

Could I? Yeah. Would I? Probably not. I don't even buy the real cards anymore since I've never used them, ever.

Goody, even less reason for people to play Type 2...  ;)

When Doug Gray was admin, he mentioned that he used a third party to host both 3Lions and CGD's sites.  I'm guessing that's still the case.

I talked to Mike and it sounds amazing! I don't know what I'm allowed to spoil so I just won't say anything... except that it will be worth the cost.

As for cost... I heard it will be something like you buy a collection of cards on the site. You can buy packs or individual cards, obviously WAY cheaper than buying a real pack or a real don. But it's a great investment, once you have that card you can use it, in any and all deck.
As a national champion, I support ReyZen deck pouches.
