Title: Online MP
Post by: The Guardian on March 26, 2013, 11:23:14 PM
Before you get all excited, this is not a new program or anything, just something I thought of when playing a T2 MP game via Hamachi chat with CG25 and Red last night.

We actually finished in a decent time, just a few minutes past 2 hours, and as we were playing I realized that often the thing that took the most time was the player whose turn it was asking what LS, Heroes and ECs were in play for the opponents. I had a couple ideas come to mind.

First was for everyone to use a standardized spreadsheet to track everything that the opponents put in play. So if you have a 3 player game, each player has a spreadsheet split in two sections where they list the Heroes, ECs, LS, art, Sites, etc that each opponent puts in play. Obviously everyone needs to be committed to paying attention at all times so they keep their spreadsheet current, but if they are committed to attempting T2 MP online then there shouldn't be a problem.

The second idea was to upload a spreadsheet as a google doc where multiple people online can view it, and one person is in charge of updating it as the game goes on.

There may even be easier/more efficient ways to do this, but just some thoughts on ways to play MP without worrying about a massive time commitment.

Google Docs would actually work kinda well. Excel would take too much work.

Can you upload an excel spreadsheet as a google doc?

I'm not as familiar with using google docs as I am with excel. I thought of spreadsheets because its easy to organize and separate columns with those.

*Edit, never mind, I just took a few minutes to look and found that of course google docs has a spreadsheet option.  ::)

Aye, google docs is a great way to do this.  And let everyone modify it - everyone is responsible for updating their portion whenever their play area changes.  It will help speed it up a little more and prevent the need for a single to double check with others.  Additionally, google docs has a chat/comment feature, so having both google docs and RTS windowed would enable an easy transition back and forth, and players would still only need two media to play (instead of requiring hamachi chat to talk to others).

Here's a sample one I created as a start.

Google docs also has a chat option so you can carry on the conversation right there on the side of the document.

This works even better than I expected. CG25, Red and I are planning another T2 MP game for Thursday night around 8:30 CST. If anyone is interested in joining as a fourth player, shoot me a PM.

I'd be down to play some Teams.

Booster Draft. Simply private chat somebody with the cards in your pack (minus what you took), and then enter the card on RTS deck builder. Then play. Lots of work, but lots of fun.

Now if only there was a way to randomly generate packs instead of having to open them IRL...ideas?

In fact there is...I created an Excel spreadsheet for an online sealed deck tourney that I ran. I will just have to find it.

You should add a small area for territory-class enhancements.

I really like this idea and would definitely play sometime and I could possibly play Thursday.

I know, I also need to add a section for set-aside and Land of Redemption.

Two things:
Jordan, have you looked for that excel program at all? I'm really interested in hosting a booster draft tournament at some point.

Justin, can I get a copy of your current google doc? Again, I'm planning on running on online multiplayer tournament.

Send me a PM. I can't check now (at work) but if I get a PM, I can flag it in my email as a reminder to check for it tonight.
