Why Does This Do That?

There are several cards in the game whose special abilities may or may not relate to the actual people/events the cards are based on. Does anyone know why these cards do these things? (Feel free to add your own, too.)

Hur: Helped support Moses' arms to help him carry out God's command and bring victory to the Israelite army
Hur's card: Mess with opponent's cards in hand?

Zaccheus: Repented from his extortion and greed, saved by Jesus
Zaccheus' card: Search for a Fortress?

Joseph the Carpenter: Mary's husband, a carpenter
Joseph the Carpenter's card: Can heal himself by going to Goshen (a place from many many many years prior)?

I will give back 4 times what I have stolen, I'm sure that can fill a fortress ;).

Call me a nerd but I picture this story like bastila's (kotor) battle meditation bringing disarray (shuffle hand) to the opposing army.

Joe...I got NO idea.
Not quite a ghost...but not quite not.

Jesus to Zaccheus: "I'm going to your HOUSE today."  :)  This was Doug's creation, if I remember correctly.  I suggested it search for good fortresses only, but Doug liked the flexibility of searching for either.  In retrospect, Doug's suggestion actually makes the most sense, since redemption didn't come to Zaccheus's house until AFTER Jesus went there and Zaccheus repented.

Joseph escaped to Egypt (Goshen is in Egypt) with his family after being warned in a dream.

Hur held up Moses' HAND (har har), which God honored by messing up the plans of the enemy.    ;D

Adding my own is Shibboleth, A story of a guy from a defeated (In battle) army trying to defect (convert) being killed but somehow...it kills people of a different brigade? Also Abithar(sp?) seemed to be a bad guy not a hero.

I'm saying this for everybody's knowledge: Shibboleth was the word that Jepthah (I can't think of his tribe right now) used to find out who was an Ephraimite and then slaughtered them... if my memory serves correctly, it makes sense

that is such a mean story. XD

Its like sorting Asians out of a crowd by asking they to say "Yellow River Rocks"

*note, no offense meant to Asians, just noting how they pronounce things.

While we're playing the stumping game, I'll add a few more. :D

Elders of the City: Oversaw the transfer of Naomi's land to Boaz (no evil or capturing going on there)
Elders of the City card: Captures defeated evil characters

Salome: One of the visitors of Jesus' empty tomb, intending to anoint his body
Salome card: (the first part is great, but) Ignores ECs with weapons?

Pot of Manna: Served as a reminder of God's providence through the wandering in the desert
Pot of Manna card: Stops side battles

don't know

Salome: One of the visitors of Jesus' empty tomb, intending to anoint his body
Salome card: (the first part is great, but) Ignores ECs with weapons?

she ignored the guard (character with a weapon)

Pot of Manna: Served as a reminder of God's providence through the wandering in the desert
Pot of Manna card: Stops side battles

kept people from fighting over food

There was no guard at the tomb. There was no one to ignore.

And the Pot of Manna was a reminder of the desert, but was collected after coming out of it.

Well, I wouldn't be pulling up all the old 4/4s/6/6s.

Ah, nice answers, Bryon! I assume Bronze Laver and Sinning Hand followed the "hand" metaphor like Hur...

To Josh: Shibboleth was a word that was pronounced differently by men of Ephraim than by men of Gilead. Gileadites (?) would ask people crossing the Jordan to say that word to determine their allegiance. They slew anyone who pronounced it "Sibboleth".

Similarly, the card slays anyone who is different. :)
Yeah, I guess that makes sense but the verse was someone trying to defect, to me at least it'd make more sense to kill people who where LIKE the people in battle but I can see your point.

Q: Why doesn't Iowa have a professional football team?

A: Because then Minnesota would want one too.
