Struggling to get going...

Okay, so the playgroup is really having a hard time getting off the ground.  Currently, it is me, my son, and one of our older youth...along with a co-worker who is able to come every now and then.  I know these things, like anything, takes time to grow, but I am really debating if it truly is worth me investing in anymore at this point.

like anything else you give up on, once your passion fades it will go away

i don't even have a playgroup and i have been passionate about this game for 2 years now, originally in 2000 i loved the game then but wanted to see it develop more. it's better than ever now!

i had a little playgroup of 5 kids and now they have moved away but i still play on lackey. 2 hours away is Dunlap TN where Rex has a great playgroup. you gotta stay persistent, make connections, and approach it from the top down.

link up with people who have groups any kind of group start off humble with i/j

Have you tried having a tournament?

Not yet, I am not abandoning ship, I am just maybe needing to approach this a bit differently.

Ok sounds good! Yes, tournaments are very fun, but certainly not the only way to enjoy the game!

The problem is that there are not many "Players" in the group yet...so a tournament would seem a bit out of the question it seems.

The lack of players in my area is my only negative complaint about Redemption.  I have been "collecting" cards since Patriarchs were released, and the only "player" I found in my area was my wife.  And, she only played because she loved me. We started with the E and F starters, graduated to the G and H starters, and played a few games of Booster Draft.  We have not played for years because, quite frankly, we got very confused about the rules and the game became quite complicated.

I still collect the cards and maybe after I retire next year - I will finally get serious about learning to play and instead of being a senior citizen in the park playing chess, I will be playing Redemption with other seniors.   :)

Anyway, good luck in getting a playgroup together.

If your looking for ideas about bringing other players in, its always fun to introduce redemption starter decks to Family Game Nights if you have those at your church. Another idea is to play redemption at local game stores. People always come up and ask me about the game and its a good opportunity to both witness and share the game.

Yeah we have a local comic/game shop that has tables.  I have thought about that.

the only reason there is any lack of players in any area is because there is

0 marketing for Redemption

easiest way to solve this problem nation wide? start doing consistent social media promotion.. Redemption has 3000 cards to push one every day you have enough for 10 years.. the game has been around for 20 sustainability is not the issue

this is honestly on no one but Cactus Game Design and Redemption vendors

As mentioned above, the two best ways I have wanted to try was:

1. Board game night at church, have Redemption there ready to go with I and J.

2. Put up a few flyers at the local game store (after talking to them of course) and have a game testing with anyone who is interested. I would have those flyers at church as well.

3. Talk to a youth pastor, see if they have any interest or would help support you starting something.
Meanwhile in Iowa...

Thanks!  Great ideas!  Me, being the senior pastor of our church and also running the youth program keeps me very busy, so these ideas will help me utilize my time better in trying to get this going.  I may check with some fellow youth pastors if they might be interested in getting a group together.
