Something like RMG could be a piece of what we're doing at Land of Redemption. When RMG was active, it was a smaller segment that relied on two people. In contrast, LoR is a larger community effort by several people. If one of them decides to stop producing content for the community, the idea is that someone else can step into their place. As long as we have people who are willing to talk about any of he various aspects of the game, LoR will have fresh content.

Speaking of fresh content, if you haven't stopped by Land of Redemption (http://www.landofredemption.com) yet today, go check out the latest article by Josiah Beers!

I think your link is broken in the comment section (it didn't work for me).  From what I can tell, you are missing a "." between "Redemption" and "com."

I agree that this is a great site! Thanks!
There are a couple of introductory Redemption videos, and I've had opportunity to share the game with new people and wanted to just send them a video but haven't been quite comfortable with what's out there. I appreciate the efforts, but I'm wondering if anyone involved in the LoR is in a position to make something a bit more presentable?

There's a plan to produce some tutorial videos for the I/J starter decks. Do you think that will meet the need or do you have something more in mind?

Be sure to drop by Land of Redemption (http://landofredemption.com) today to check out the 2nd installment from "combo king" John Earley!

Great questions! Yes, booster does have different deck building rules than T1 or T2. In the "Tournament Host Guide" it gives the following explanation.

Quote
Booster Draft (Multi-Player only)
Players build their decks from at least six expansion packs of cards. Each player is given one of each type of booster from six expansion sets as determined by the host. These can include Unlimited Edition, Prophets, Apostles, Patriarchs, Kings, Angel Wars, Priests, Thesaurus Ex Preteritus, and Disciples. Another option is that the host may supply each player with a Faith of Our Fathers or Rock of Ages tin.
Note: the host is allowed to give each player more than six booster packs but, six are what are normally provided.
Players sit at their first-round multi-player table.
-Each player is responsible for bringing 8 regular lost soul cards (no special abilities) to the table. You will need 7 lost soul cards if you play a 50 to 56 card deck. You will need 8 lost soul cards if you play a
56 to 63 card deck. If you pull a lost soul card from a pack then you can substitute it for one that you brought to the table. This is the only way you will be able to play a lost soul card that has a special ability. - Players look at the cards they drafted and have ten minutes to assemble a deck. Each player will have at least 54 cards and are allowed to remove cards if they wish. Each player adds the appropriate number of lost soul cards to their deck to make it legal. When players finish building their decks (or when deck- building time has expired), and after a referee has checked their deck to confirm that it is legal, play begins.
- Players must play a minimum of fifty cards in their decks.

You can use any card that you draft, including duplicates! You still cannot have duplicate unique characters in play though, even if you have them in your deck. Although it's not stated in the explanation above, I've been taught that we are not allowed to use multiples of the same Dominant in our booster draft deck. But in all my years of playing Redemption and hosting tournaments I've never seen anyone get duplicates of a Dominant in their draft. I guess nobody wants to pass me a 2nd Falling Away. ;)

If that is an official rule it should be in there, I've seen at least one person draft multiple Destruction of Nehusthan (aren't TexP and Disciples fun) and we didn't find any reason to disallow it in the rules.

Thanks for your feedback, Matt. I've talked with Travis about ways he might contribute to LoR. We do have plans for the future but those depend entirely on his time. I know he's been investing heavily in Three Lions Gaming after his recent purchase of the business.

Coming up this week on LoR we can look forward to:

Either I'm a better deck builder than I thought, or something, because I have a clay deck with Saul/Paul, Rhoda, Ananias of Damascus, Paul's disciples and several others mentioned in today's article. Not all of course, but enough that it looks eerily similar. Once again Land of Redemption has done it again, and given me a few cards I might add to improve my clay deck. Hehehe. :)
Great articles, great authors keep it up.

Life happens and some of our regular authors haven't had a chance to submit their content, making this a slow week at Land of Redemption. I'd like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that Land of Redemption is a community project. If you have something you're inspired to write about, please contact me via private message and I'll work with you to publish your content. Anyone who's been playing this game for a while, hosting a play group or tournaments, has something of value to offer to others.

On the horizon... Rob has given me permission to preview a card we're testing in the new set. I'm not sure yet what day that will go live, but you can look for it next week.

Here's how you use the new card:

You draw Chloe and Created by Christ on turn 1.

Play CbC, you have no ECs in the deck. Pull out all of your lost souls, including 2 liner and shuffler, and another Corinth hero. Place SoG and NJ on top of your deck, followed by anything that can help based on what your opponent puts down.

Make a RA with Chloe and draw 2 (or 3 if you had another corinth hero in your opening hand).

You now have: SoG and NJ in hand, two-liner and shuffler out to keep your opponent from getting anything, and a completely stacked deck. Possibly run some sites for defense, which you placed right below SoG and NJ.

On that card in particular, as noted in the LoR piece, those were early-playtest versions being shown.  A lot has been tested, played, and adjusted in the whole set since then, and the final versions of early leaks cannot be guaranteed to be the same.

Loving the Doomed Conspirators! Gimmicky and fits with the theme!!! Totally something I would have tried to use in one of my decks ;D

Quick comment though... this is coming from someone who is familiar with the game but is a bit rusty haha. The "Otherwise..." portion of the ability is worded kind of odd. It is clear of course to someone familiar with the game and it makes sense to word it that way since you guys are trying to save space on the card... but it did take me a couple of times of reading the card to figure out what was going on.

I don't know if this would fit since you're trying to keep it at five lines of text... but maybe change that sentence to "If a missionary was not defeated discard this character after battle."

Length is definitely a concern here, and that would be too long to fit on the card.  Where short-hand will work, we'll try to incorporate it wherever possible, so long as it doesn't change the meaning on the card.  "Otherwise" works because it says "if the previous condition didn't happen, do something else," which means we don't have to repeat the condition in the next line.  Though I do know what you mean.

Ability looks a little watered down. I would have rather seen "search for a curse and activate it" then a vanilla band to angry mob  ;) Then at least it would be playable. Or "If blocking a missionary"

It is a little watered down, sure, but thats because it is so high-risk/high reward. There are a few ways to relatively ensure that a missionary gets defeated (CSA as mentioned, and also Sarah's Jealousy) so he might get a bit of mileage out of the ability. Also, grabbing Besieged from deck should make it worthwhile in a Mob deck.

Unless I missed something, CSA wouldn't activate Doomed Conspirators.  CSA interrupts the battle, which would interrupt Doomed Conspirators' ongoing "If a missionary is defeated..." ability.  By the time CSA resolves and Doomed Conspirators' ongoing ability reactivates, the missionary would already be defeated.

Ah yes, good point. Forgot about the fact that CSA's interrupt is non-optional.

Still, Sarah's Jealousy is still one of the most powerful crimson Enhancements in the game, and can be super powerful in the right circumstances with this guy. And who knows, maybe someone will pull a Mask of Worldliness or Love of a Money to be able to use other CtR/side battle cards, or band to the gray Mob and use Idle Gossip.

Now that we've finished the "Know Your Role" series on Land of Redemption, what do you guy think about that type of strategy article?

Is that type of in depth strategy something people would like to see more of?

Do you start reading and it make your eyes gloss over, so you go to youtube and watch funny cat videos instead?

Is it not nearly as in depth as I assume and therefor not all that interesting?

Let me know what you think so we can decide if we should do more in the future.

Gabe, I loved reading the 3 articles.  That's the level of thinking I desire to read about on LoR.  I know it won't work for all the articles, since LoR needs to be beneficial for newer players too.  But if there is more that can be written along these lines, I'll be avidly reading.

One thing that might go a long way towards helping players develop advanced Redemption strategy is an accounting of an actual game between two well-built decks run by two good players.  Hearing good players discuss why they do what they do can be mind-opening in terms of learning strategy.  Obviously the article length would be an issue.

You can also check out the supplemental thread (http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/redemption-card-play/land-of-redemption-what-would-you-like-to-see/) I started today. You can either post suggestions for new content there or if you're interested in writing an article you can take someone's suggestion and write something up yourself!

Redoubter and I are also working on doing video content with sample I/J deck games.

This got my brain working - Might I suggest a sticky thread, locked for adding save for posting about new articles. That way, they wouldn't get lost in the general discussion - like they kind of have in this thread. Then, we can start a discussion thread for the articles we want to discuss. I see that there are comments available under the articles - in my mind, ideally, these comments would be merged with a thread on this message board, though I don't know enough to know if that's possible.
... just a thought.

Welcome to Philippi week at Land of Redemption! This week we're going to dig deeper into the church at Philippi and take a look at a slew of preview cards.

Also, later this week you can expect an exciting article that talks about different player types as well as our regular Friday devotion. We have two days that still need to be filled. If you've been considering writing or recording content for Land of Redemption, there is no time like the present!

Today on Land of Redemption we have a brand new author introducing a brand new series based on community input. Be sure to check it out!

We didn't receive any submissions for the Thursday spot this week so there will not be new content tomorrow. The Philippi article will still be updated with 2 new preview cards.

We will be back Friday with new content as Jesse shares a new devotion with us.

While I'd love to see the Armor of God I think that since we've already seen part of that theme I would rather see something else. Since we've also seen a couple churches I'd vote for Diviners (if it's an evil theme, since we've seen mostly good previews so far) or James/Jude.

So far it seems that armor of God will be next week's theme.

Part of me thinks that they will be clay/x like the Fruits of the Spirit were and then the other part says they will keep their multicolor. I also think some of the Ephesians church characters or maybe letter to the Ephesians artifact will help make them cbn/i/p.

Are you saying that as in Thaddeus the Disciple = Jude?  They are not considered the same person in Redemption at this time.  Jude called Thaddeus is one of The Twelve; this character is represented by the Thaddeus card.  Jude, as referenced in Jude 1, is the Jude brother of Jesus (and brother of James, who was leader in Jerusalem), and is represented by the Jude card.

Thanks, everyone, for your feedback. One of our authors is well on his way to having a series ready for you on the AoG (which we may or may not have reprinted  ::)). After that we will do a theme week on diviners followed by James and Jude.

**EDIT**

Please take special notice that in conjunction with Monday's preview article, there will be a one day contest sponsored in part by our author and Three Lions Games. While I'm not directly involved, I'm told it's for 10 packs of Persecuted Church to be given when the set is officially released!

That's pretty much what I was fishing for. I figured it'd come down on that side of the debate. Somewhat disappointing from a combo perspective, and a bit surprising considering John the Revelator=John the Apostle, but probably the safest bet.

I usually forget a lot about a set between the time we finish testing and when the cards are released. Some cards go through enough changes that I find that I get them confused with "old versions" I tested even months after they go live.  ::)

Next week there will be previews for both the Ephesus and Colossae churches.

And that will end our previews of the new set!

Here's the info you're looking for.

Quote from: CactusRob
10 random cards pulled from (unlimited, prophets, apostles, patriarchs, kings, angel wars, priests)
11th card will be a random Warriors or Women card

Also note that it should take about 55 packs to get a complete set of PC. That will net you about 2 full sets of commons and some duplicate rares.

I for one would be definitely in favor of this. It should probably be left up to the players whether or not they want their decks revealed during the tourney, but I'd say if both players at the table agree, this would be a great resource to have for future players to see top decks in action (assuming the stream is also recorded).

That's awesome that there will be live streaming!

Are you only planning to show the games on a screen in house? I'm not sure I completely understand the purpose of that outside of top cut.

If you plan to live stream online, has anyone checked to make sure the bandwidth at the church can handle live streaming?

Typically, the way live streaming games is handled is that the players involved are asked in advance if they're OK with it. If they mind then choose a different "top table" to broadcast. This works for games outside the top cut. Once the top cut begins, players that are involved should expect to have their game broadcast.

Games broadcast online are far more interesting if there's someone (or a pair of people) commentating. You could also record the games and add commentary later, then upload them to the web.

I'm no expert at any of this but I do have some experience so if you need any assistance I'm glad to help.

As for the bandwidth issue, if the church Wi-Fi can't handle it, I could probably set up my mobile hotspot on my phone to see if that would work. I get data pretty cheap (one of the benefits of working for Verizon) so as long as the signal is strong enough, I wouldn't mind helping to set it up. We can try to run some tests Thursday evening to see if that would be possible.

I'd rather watch the bottom tables. They usually have better (and longer) Battle Phases.  ;D

Commentating was hysterical at OH district. My favorite was whenever someone rescued a soul we'd start going nuts while yelling "SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!"
Good times.

Congrats John I am excited to read your report.

In case you haven't already noticed, on Land of Redemption we have a number of reports, deck and play analysis coming in from Nationals. There are more on the way!

Unfortunately we were not able to record any matches. The GoPro we expected did not make it to Nationals and honestly, if you read the reports, the final match between John and Josiah would not have been very exciting to watch.

For those that want to see a high level game with commentary on the thought process and plays, it's still forthcoming. John and I have plans to produce such a video, possibly of a game between his 1st place deck and my 4th place deck.

I am looking forward to this a lot!  Hopefully you and John are able to make it happen   :D

If it does end up happening, and you are able to make multiple videos, I would recommend targeting specific deck type matchups from these generic categories to mix things up:

1. Offense-heavy, meta (Teal tomb, Disciples/Pharisees, FBTNB, etc.)
2. Balanced, meta (Disciples or OT spread offense paired with NT Gray/Black splash, Genyptians, Hand Control, John's version of The Deck, etc.)
3. Balanced, anti-meta (Josiah's deck, Judges/Assyrian magician decks, my Judges/Ezekiel/Babylonian magician deck, etc.)
4. Defense-heavy, anti-meta (John's deck, etc.)

If you have two good players piloting well-built decks, the commentary and analysis will always be valuable to the Redemption community as a whole - but I think different deck matchups from the list above will definitely help players learn advanced strategies, depending the type of deck they are playing with or playing against.

This week on Land of Redemption we have a full plate of articles, interviews and insights from Nationals as well as the Friday devotion!

John and I recorded a game using new decks with Persecuted Church cards. We still need to edit the footage and add commentary. It might be up as early as next week.

We decided a game against our decks from Nationals wouldn't be very exciting to watch (or play) since John's deck is very one sided. If this project goes well you can expect more like this in the future.

"Ruthless Stuff": Part 2
Pocket Devos on Friday

Also pending are:

T2-2P Champion report

Between busy summer schedules, work on the REG update, all the new card previews and the Nationals coverage, many of our regular authors and articles have been on hiatus. With the start of the new school year we can expect some of those to pick back up as well as articles from a new author or two!

*"high level play" video is still pending due to my slow editing ::)

Nice video!
Also about the "cascade" negate, which stuff can't be cascaded because the video mentioned that the stuff that can be  cascaded will be, but the stuff that can't won't, what ones can't?
Title: Re: Land of Redemption
Post by: The Guardian on August 27, 2015, 07:04:06 PM
Anything that is "Cannot be interrupted" (I believe Philemon was the example in the video) or "Cannot be negated" would not be cascade negated (also referred to as "indirect negation").

Thanks for the feedback on the video. It was "mostly high level play" for sure. Both John and I were disappointed at some of the plays we made and the things we overlooked. It was only the second time we've played those decks using the new cards. In the future we will use decks we are more familiar with.

I'm glad that cascading negate happened. It's a good example of one of the more messy things that can happen in Redemption. Both Philemon and Claudia are CBI which is why I didn't have to shuffle my deck as part of the cascade.

This is most likely the format I'll use for the I&J starter tutorial videos which is the next video project I want to work on. My hope is that they will be high quality and a great tool to help people enter the game.

We will do more HLP games in the future as well. There's already been talk about a T2 HLP game so I'm sure that will happen some time.

I'm interested to hear peoples thoughts about how we can improve the video. One piece of feedback I received is that the card images could be bigger. I'll mess with some different formats to see if I can figure out a way to make that happen for future videos. Any other ideas?

I also enjoyed watching the video.  I admit that I fast-forwarded a bit through the deck overview parts, which seemed just a tad long.  Maybe you could just skip the obvious cards (SoG/NJ, individual NT LSs, etc.) and only mention the cards that were more unusual to include in a deck but were great for these particular decks.

The game itself went at a great pace though, and was very clear to follow along.  Great job overall, and thanks for contributing this resource for the community.

It might be good to start the title with "Redemption CCG" (or TCG). I know that makes it longer, but it might be good for exposure.
Thanks!

do you think you could maybe post up a video that could be permanently on the front page of land of redemption kind of giving a quick overview of the game and how it ties directly to ministry? this might be useful for people like me who want to share the game with others and something to send them to spark their interest and hopefully subscribe to land of redemption and begin playing all together! maybe even if it is a short video like 30 seconds or a minute that just says how we are to rescue lost souls and it's a great way to learn about the heroes of the bible, the holy spirit with the fruits of the spirit, and the armor of god you know?

I like how you covered just the basics in your video. Even though you use G&H, you cover the same basic card types found in the I&J deck so your tutorial will be beneficial for players with either deck. Nicely done!

I'm also excited for the future videos you plan to make and how they will help players understand other aspects of the game. In your first video I noticed that the audio seemed to cut in and out throughout the video. Maybe that is something you could improve in your future productions?

What is the "street name" for the lost soul?

Officially it's the "Crowds Lost Soul" because the verse refers to the crowds that gathered to hear Jesus. However, we are well aware that the community usually comes up with nicknames that tend to stick a bit more than the name we use during playtesting.  8)

Are you going to start making more animals for "animal decks"? like an entire defense composed of animals? cause that would be pretty awesome. then we could have MAN VS WILD: Redemption ;D

It's for realz. When you see it tomorrow you'll understand why deliberately stating it's not a joke (if it was) would be in really poor taste.

If the card title has a link to a "saved for future article" image or something similar then it's like a half preview. You get to know that there's a new card with that name but the image will not be revealed until a future article.

Hopefully that answers your question.

ok I just noticed for those 2 in particular there were abilities in parentheses in the text explaining the story for the cards. Just didn't know if you were meaning to spoil that portion or not. But cool.

not saying its worth it, but i got westy to agree to host as many redemption metagaming podcasts yall want for 20 bucks per episode. all the money would go towards westy being able to eat because he's a poor broke college graduate with no job. he doesn't promise to play redemption just talk about it for money. seems worth it imo.

I am thinking about writing an article for LoR that talks about how a set is priced and what the first month (pre-orders and sale) has looked like and where the value of CoW cards seem to be headed. Would there be any interest in that side of things?

Absolutely! With the sword going through the middle of the identifier line it was unreadable when centered. We tried several borders for this card but really liked this one best. The only way to use it and keep the identifier was to have revert to the "old style" left justified identifier.

So in the Intro piece I did for today's LoR piece (which I recorded last week before doing any CoW Booster) I mentioned that I thought Eternal Covenant had really good Booster potential. After having done 7 or so CoW Booster drafts, I will say that Eternal Covenant is probably one of the best CoW cards for Booster--especially among the "non-Hero" cards that you can draft. In a game earlier this week, I won my first two rescue attempts by mutual destruction and lost a couple of strong Heroes (red Peter and TexP Martha). A few turns later I flipped up Eternal Covenant and got them both back in two turns.  Later in that same game, someone used Seek and Destroy to discard my Chenaniah...but thanks to Eternal Covenant he came right back on my next turn.  8) Because Booster draft games will typically involve "freebie LS" (as in any multi-player format), you always want to have at least one Hero available and Eternal Covenant is simply awesome in that respect.

Post by: Xonathan on June 01, 2016, 02:15:33 PM
When I saw you flip up Eternal Covenant after I "sacrificed" two EC hoping to deplete your available heroes and was just stunned. I must agree, it's  probably the best card I've ever seen used in a booster draft

after rewatching my tutorial part 1 video I would like to take this time to apologize for 2 things, both of which were beyond my control:

1. I would like to apologize for the poor audio quality cause the camera on my computer doesn't carry good sound quality but I promise, the next part in the tutorial will go back to a couple of things I mentioned that the viewer and or future redemption player didn't catch such as the current list of colors I mentioned

2. ive noticed I uploaded the video way back last DECEMBER and here it is, already the day before the first day of july which means I haven't mentioned or even posted a video on youtube in exactly 6 months and for that I apologize.

I give you guys my raven promise that by tomorrow part 2 will be up and watchable if not at least tonight so look forward to that and oh, one more thing; there will also be another video coming out sometime soon and it'll bring about an update that I hope and pray will shake up the redemption community that hopefully within God's will and power, can help bring in future generations of redemption players.

that's all for now, but I will post the link to the 2nd part of the tutorial onto this thread when it comes available to watch

For possibly the first time ever, Land of Redemption will have an article up all 7 days this week!

We've already seen a T2-only summary, some new promo previews, and our usual Throwback Thursday article. Tomorrow we're previewing the final new promo and Saturday will bring an article about some changes made to Paul since he was previewed earlier this week (wow the PTB can be fast!).

Wednesday - double feature!!! A preview article focused on the 7 Seals goes live at midnight. Scott will reveal the 3 player created cards and last 2 URs at noon!
Thursday - Throw Back Thursday
Friday - An article describing a number of changes that took place to cards that were already previewed. Some came through testing, some through community feedback. Tune in to see the final outcome!

Release date is still mid-May. There are variables based on the time it takes at the printer and time to package the product.

The card boxes will contain:

1 RoJ Rare/UR
3 RoJ Commons

5 Priests
3 RoA
3 FF

I believe it was Cloud that when I opened several packs there were Women cards in them. One at time usually and perhaps not every pack. It could have been TPC but I think it was Cloud this happened.

I bought a special border Cloud of Witness pack and 3 of the 4 cards were not special border.

Special border packs were only available at Nationals last year, I think you probably just got a regular pack and the rare is the one with a blended border.
Title: Re: Land of Redemption
Post by: The Guardian on April 11, 2017, 01:09:36 PM
I bought it at Nationals. Also I don't think the art on Broken Covenant normally covers the entire card.

Ah, I thought you meant you bought it recently. I believe Rob ran out of the alternate border commons before he had used up all the rares and URs so they made some special packs with either multiple alternate border rares plus a couple regular commons or an alternate border UR with regular commons (which is what it sounds like you got).

JD was a huge blessing to the Revelation of John set. He offered constructive feedback on some of the cards, helped the elders in some playtest games (it pays to always be on Lackey!!) and used his God given talent to upgrade a few pieces of art!

One of the things I love most about this game is that the community has such a huge impact on shaping it!!!

The example with JD above and Justin's articles today and the one coming Friday are wonderful examples of that.

Changes are pretty cool, nice to see The False Prophet get buffed. I'm just confused as to why the territory class was removed from blasphemy. Sure it makes it better but that's perfect because it makes it a more useful counters to 3 woes, throne,..etc On the other hand removing it hurts Red Dragon's versatility.

I'm curious to how everyone would feel about this but seeing as I have a little more time during the summer months, since I only attend college during the fall and spring, I was thinking I might be able to create some material. I almost exclusively play T2 for constructed formats so my idea was to potentially start a series of deck/offense/defense archetypes for T2. My favorite thing in Redemption is deck building and T2 I feel offers the greatest variety of potentially competitive decks. I've only been to 1 Nats so far (I think I finished 4th in T2 2player) so I don't have a plethora of experience to share completely optimized archetypes, but I can deliver a basic starting point for themes and options to consider for anyone wishing to explore a T2 deck. Would this be something that people would be interested in?

A suggestion I would make for any article about an REG update is a link to the updated REG itself. Since the version name is part of the URL, I have to update my bookmark every time it's updated and it would be quite convenient to be able to just click a link in the article and update the bookmark from there instead of having to manually update it with the new version number. It would give me a very strong reason to check out the LoR post that accompanies REG updates.  8)
Title: Re: Land of Redemption
Post by: Gabe on June 16, 2017, 12:54:10 AM
That's a good idea, Kevin. The REG is mirrored in LoR's resource section but linking it in the news article should have been done.

Thank you, Daniel. It's always fun looking back at what could have been.

Not exactly but when the playtest team was discussing how many cards to preview, we thought 3 per week would be a good number. Obviously Gabe got a little excited for that last article...  ::)

I have a lot to catch up with but as soon as I can get to it there's lots of content to post on LoR, including a long overdue T2 article from Joseph and Justin, Nationals summary and Tournament report from the T1-2P champion Kariusvega!

After taking a week hiatus from LoR to catch up with other responsibilities we're back in full swing!

Last night I uploaded all AB RoJ images to our Imgur account. If you haven't seen the cards yet you'll definitely want to take a look!

This morning another excellent T2 article went live.

Tuesday we have an AB RoJ unboxing video.

Wednesday you get a full tournament report from the T1-2P National Champion.

Friday you get to read about a player created card that didn't make the cut.

And thats just this week! We already have 3 pieces for you the following week too! Keep the awesome content coming Redemption players!

I was really glad to see so many full art cards this year instead of just alternate borders. How did you decide which would be full art and which would just have an alternate border? Is there a reason they aren't all full art?

It seems like almost all the rares got full art.

Correct! We decided to distinguish rares with full art the same way we distinguish URs with borderless. A few broke that mold, namely the Lost Souls because we really liked the astro borders and a couple of the winner cards because we give them the freadom to choose what they want.

This is what I must have noticed in my video with the Horsemen, but I didn't put the connection together that it was a rare.

I guess I kind of figured someone would find it. Once the article goes up tomorrow, I plan to start a question/comment/suggestion thread...and I am toying with another idea too, but haven't worked out the details. But for now, feel free to download and peruse what's there.
Title: Re: Land of Redemption
Post by: NathanW on September 10, 2017, 06:57:25 PM
I mean I can make one suggestion right now, will probably take a long time to do but have every identifier listed for each card. I see you already specified "identifier on card" :)
Title: Re: Land of Redemption
Post by: Professoralstad on September 10, 2017, 07:26:33 PM
Yeah, the problem is that there are certain cards where a complete list of identifiers would take up the whole page...it is something I am looking into adding for the spreadsheet, and may see how well it could be implemented on the PDF. Since the info is available in the REG (unlike Play As or Errata) it wasn't as high of a priority for now. But I assure you what you see now is not the last you will see of the ORCID.
Title: Re: Land of Redemption
Post by: Adevine on September 10, 2017, 08:18:26 PM
This is awesome!!! Exactly what I needed for my building learning endeavors. :)  I do notice a few differences, but how does the "Play as" section help the reader?  Just a question of mine...does it help explain what the ability can do?
Title: Re: Land of Redemption
Post by: Professoralstad on September 10, 2017, 10:36:14 PM
Basically, the way I roughly put it in my article:

A Play As is needed when a card doesn't say what it does. An Errata is needed when a card doesn't do what it says.

To elaborate, the Play As just takes the written ability and converts it to today's language (so Take prisoner becomes capture, remove from the game becomes banish, etc.). It doesn't change how the ability actually works. Errata does often change the way the ability works (or makes something work that as written doesn't work).

The link to open the PDF will also let you download it depending on how you click on it. The specifics will depend on your OS and browser but almost and file on the web can be downloaded.

Ive thought long and hard on this and after reveiwing my previous tutorial, i have to admit, im not satisfied with how it turned out.
1. My constant stuttering and slight pauses that need to be addressed

And

2. Im not happy with neither video or audio quality

So in my time im gonna redo the tutorial so it could be more professionally done cause my current videos just make me cringe. So after they've been recorded and uploaded i will share them with the forums but before i get to it, i have to prepare for my son to come into the world.

As the triplets have transitioned into their first year of college their focus needed to change and they have not be able to continue in their role of posting and editing for Land of Redemption. I'd like to offer up a HUGE thank you for their contribution during the seasons that they piloted Land of Redemption!

Jesse has graciously volunteered to fill that role for us going forward! Please welcome Jesse to the team! I know all of us look forward to seeing new and exciting content pop up in the coming weeks!

You'll notice that the Tabernacle promo offer has been updated, extended and expanded! You can now also get a Whirlwind/Everlasting Ground!

We have at least 3 new articles in queue. The FoM spreadsheet is almost done and will be added by Jesse soon too.

Expect and be a part of great things to come!

I mentioned this earlier in the thread somewhere... but I still wish that some of these reprints weren't just straight up upgrades of old cards.

I think cards like Windows of Narrow Light and High Places do a fantastic job of making old cards usable again. I also think that offering alternate versions of cards like Moses, David, ect. are another appropriate way of doing reprints without making the old cards useless.

That said... Bravo to the Elders! And congrats on the fantastic design on these evil Prophets! Some of the most thematic cards I've ever seen in Redemption! I do really appreciate the care that has been done to use the original art on many of these cards too!!! The art from the original Prophets set is absolutely amazing.

I went to the local copy store and I now have my booger-hooks the Super-Ultra Rare black n white Lost Soul Token cards. This is mainly because some computer wouldn't talk to the other computer that talked to the ginormous color printer that wouldn't print anything because it won't listen or something like that. Thanks to all that made this PDF available to the Redemption community. On a side note, I will swing back by the copy store and have some of the Common color Lost Soul Token cards printed.   ::)

Godspeed,

Now I wonder if Exodus will see some play now? Any ideas on how to speed such kind of decks up (other than Eg. Horses + Swift Horses + Words of Encouragement + Faith + some Characters which get cards from deck/dc pile/reserve)?
Title: Re: Land of Redemption
Post by: Mr.Hiatus on April 12, 2019, 06:30:48 AM
I’ve seen a lot of people asking how to speed up certain offenses/defenses. Not every theme needs speed and instead of trying to draw extra you could stop drawing all together. Imagine an Exodus/Egyptian deck that constantly hits the opponent’s deck while you are preventing drawing. Your opponent can’t draw and you are constantly discarding their top cards. Also, if you really want speed you can throw in Auto, Cov w/ Moses, Eli’s Sound Advice, the drawing Egyptians (which there are plenty of), and then have your cards you just mentioned as well. That’s seems like plenty of speed to me.
Title: Re: Land of Redemption
Post by: Reth on April 12, 2019, 08:30:06 AM
Thank you! And as mentioned in my previous post I already put some speed in.
Honestly I do not see the deck DC option as a valid one anymore due to too much protection around getting its coronation by the new storehouse. So maybe other Egyptians might fit better now in defense (which would make a nearly "pure" exodus theme a harder task then).
For the drawing Egyptians I might have a look again - so far I could "only" find some drawing you one card when pushed into battle while not having so much synergies with better characters (in terms of SA). But I will not bring this thread out of topic any longer. I will copy this post into my Exodus Thread over there (http://www.cactusforums.com/type-1-deck-advice/the-exodus-(well-nearly)-ideas-opinions-hints-tips-thoughts-welcome/).
Title: Re: Land of Redemption
Post by: Watchman on April 12, 2019, 08:32:53 AM
If you’re not building your Exodus DC strategy with counters to your opponent’s deck protection cards then you’re not building your deck correctly. That’s all I’m gonna say about that.

Yes, soon.TM  ;)

As a brief update, my brother Jordan (the creator of the ORCID) has had to step away from Redemption for the most part (other than an occasional tournament appearance) due to being a new father and now having another little one on the way. We are working on setting up the ORCID so that it can be easily updated by anyone on the Elder team.

Good afternoon All... I have posted my first article regarding Redemption strategy. It is live on the site now, so be sure to give it a look when you have time. It is a pretty lengthy read, but I didn't feel there was enough to try to break it down into multiple articles, and I didn't want to water it down by not giving my full thoughts on it. Hopefully there's something in the content that will be useful to you.

Also, be on the lookout later this week for a Christmas inspired box opening from Redemption with Jayden.

And, as Tiny Tim himself said, "A Merry Christmas to us all; God bless us, every one!"

So yesterday after I posted my latest Land of Redemption article entitled "CtheTree's Take On: Is Old School Back?" I mentioned that after I wrote the article I finished a different deck list seeking to function well with the "Salty" Lost Soul active that is possibly better than the list I shared in the article. Well after mulling it over I decided to add that list and a write up to the article for it. Land of Redemption presents BONUS CONTENT for "CtheTree's Take On: Is Old School Back?" Check it out at the end of the article here: http://landofredemption.com/?p=11832 (http://landofredemption.com/?p=11832)

Also if you have any feedback on ideas for either of these deck lists/how to make them better I would be happy to receive it.

Today is the official launch date of a new community resource for the game of Redemption - Land of Redemption (http://www.landofredemption.com)! You'll find fresh content from a variety of different players each weekday so check in often. The first featured post is live now! Check it out!
It's hard to believe that Land of Redemption started over 7 years ago! At that time there was very little content being created outside of posts on this forum. Now there is so much great content from our vast community that it's hard to keep track of it all! Look how far we've come!

My involvement has been minimal for quite some time now, mostly just an oversight role. We've had a number of community members help out in the editor role over the years, keeping new content coming. Chad Frantz has done an excellent job filling that role for us for quite a while now!

The time has come for me to pass the ownership of LoR on to someone else who has a heart to see all kinds of great Redemption content in one easy to find place. There's nobody that understands that vision better than Chad! He's agreed to take over the ownership of LoR, in fact we made the transition a couple weeks ago.

As this season comes to a close for me, I'd like to thank all of you for making LoR a success! Thanks to every single person who has created content to share with our community. Thanks to Scott, Jesse, the Wagenknechts and of course Chad for filling the editor role. I'd be remiss not to thank our excellent sponsors who have generously paid the bills to keep the site running all of those years! Three Lions Gaming (https://www.threelionsgaming.com) has been with us from the start and last year Your Turn Games (https://www.yourturngames.biz) joined the team!

Please continue to show Chad your full support as he expands his role with LoR. I have no doubt that he will continue to improve things. But that also takes all of you. LoR has always been and will always be a community effort.

Have you been flustered by territory class heavy decks and their hyper consistent nature? Well lots of discussion about this has happened. I decided to go to deck building to find a way to beat these decks and I found a couple deck builds that are able to. Check them out in this article entitled "Old School's Sortie" on Land of Redemption: http://landofredemption.com/?p=11996 (http://landofredemption.com/?p=11996).

Also stay tuned for The Threshing Floor Podcast this week where the approach to these deck builds will be discussed further!

I greatly enjoyed being on this weeks The Threshing Floor podcast with John Hendrix and in recording the podcast with him I realized from an insight John mentioned a great way to make my Old School "Salty" Goldilocks deck better! I have edited the article with the changes. John mentioned using evil character draw as a way to increase odds on a turn 1 block of getting to Three Nails for a manual activation the next turn. He had used The Herdsmen of Gerar in playing Resetti at Nats for this purpose. He mentioned Hymn has been running The Highwayman for a similar reason. I realized my deck build focused on using "Salty" and Three Nails as ways to get the edge against hyper territory class decks would be even better running both Tubal-Cain and a high draw evil character as ways to try to get to Three Nails. I believe Outsiders (Black/Gold) is the best high draw evil character in the game currently since Outsiders does so much more than just draw. And they fit perfect with my Evil Gold defense in my second deck list in the article. Check out the edits to my list and the article here: http://landofredemption.com/?p=11996 (http://landofredemption.com/?p=11996). It is the second deck list that has received the edits. I think this list very well may be the best "Salty" based counter deck I have come up with since I also was able to include some other key things in the deck I had thought would be helpful.

Check out The Threshing Floor podcast that goes with this article here: https://thethreshingfloor.podbean.com/e/episode-46-the-art-of-the-counter/ (https://thethreshingfloor.podbean.com/e/episode-46-the-art-of-the-counter/)

I built all three of these decks for my play group members and they ran them at Nationals. The second deck build is featured in an article entitled "CtheTree's Take On: Valley Girls". Check it out here on Land of Redemption: http://landofredemption.com/?p=12589 (http://landofredemption.com/?p=12589)

Land of Redemption is back and better than ever with a brand new website crafted by Daniel the Creator!

The new site has card lists for both Israel's Deliverance and Israel's Rebellion added. Also Land of Redemption now has some great new content! Every episode of Tyler Talks and Chamber of Angels are now featured and we will be featuring their content moving forward. Tristan Wilson also had some unboxing videos he made which are featured on LoR now. Lastly: to celebrate the new website we have a new "CtheTree's Take On" article on a deck build entitled "Money Tree" and a new devotional on Naaman by Taylor. Check it all out at: https://landofredemption.com/ (https://landofredemption.com/). Enjoy!

If you have not been over to Land of Redemption in a while now would be a good time. I do apologize as I fell behind for roughly the past month and several days in getting our featured content up on LoR. All featured content is completely up to date from folks like RWJ and Tyler Talks. Also Land of Redemption is pleased to announce we will be featuring the fantastic content on BaboonyTim's YouTube channel. His channel is brand new just starting roughly two weeks ago but he has already released several fantastic videos primarily featuring deck tech/gameplay videos of notable deck builds built by other community members. We also have a new unboxing video by Beardedguy21. Check it all out here: https://landofredemption.com/ (https://landofredemption.com/).

P.S. I do apologize the tournaments section on LoR is not up to date. There is an issue with the new website that is not allowing me to edit that part of the site. Tech support is working on it and we hope to have it resolved.

Announcing THE DECK DATABASE:

A while back I mentioned on a Threshing Floor Podcast episode how I would be starting a Deck Database on Land of Redemption. What I meant by this is when I publish a deck build that article will periodically be updated as I update the deck build for as long as the deck remains relevant in the meta. Once a deck is no longer relevant in the meta I will "retire" it to "The Deck Archive" category on LoR. I recently have gone through and updated all but one of my main deck builds I published in the past year that are still relevant in this meta. The one article I did not update this month (Soul Surfer) was just updated in December. At the bottom of each article is now a change log reflecting what has changed  with each update as well as an explanation of why the changes were made. The goal in doing this is to reflect the refining process deck builds should go through to account for changes in the meta. I hope this is helpful to the community. So without further ado I present to you the revamped versions of Blues Clues, Valley Girls, Black Widow, and Money Tree. All can be viewed here on Land of Redemption: https://landofredemption.com/category/complete-decks/the-deck-database/ (https://landofredemption.com/category/complete-decks/the-deck-database/). I do have three brand new deck builds that I plan to share in the coming weeks/months or so when I have the time to write the articles. They are called The Pianist, The Showstopper, and Cherry Picker. Stay tuned...

Also The Deck Database is open to other folks who might want to contribute decks of their own to it. Please remember in order to contribute to the Deck Database you must follow the format of providing a deck list as well as a "primer" of the deck which is an explanation of how the deck works. Also if you fail to update your deck within 1 year it will be moved to The Deck Archive category. If it does get updated it will be moved back to The Deck Database. I hope this can become something like Moxfield is for Magic the Gathering: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/public (https://www.moxfield.com/decks/public). This is my inspiration for The Deck Database.

I have updated my Soul Surfer article with the refined version of my Soul Surfer deck build that I just won the Lackey Grand Prix #14 with. A video of the Top Cut Final with AgurTheWise is included in the article with commentary by AgurTheWise and BaboonyTim. It is quite different from the version I shared in December 2023. A slightly earlier version of this deck build (preserved in the change log) also won the RobM Zoom Series 16 back near the end of January.

This is the deck build I had been planning to run at Nationals as I feel it is my best deck build but then on Tuesday when the Guardian of Your Souls (Nats promo) was spoiled I realized that might be ill advised since it counters the whole offense for the most part. However, in the past couple days I realized how to modify Soul Surfer to allow it to work through Guardian of Your Souls (promo) and as a bonus I have included that deck list in addition to the list that just won the LGP #14. A Matthew based offense is still a viable offense I believe when constructed a certain way even when Guardian of Your Souls (promo) becomes tournament legal. Here is the article on Land of Redemption: https://landofredemption.com/cthetrees-take-on-soul-surfer/
