CoL or Chumps? Chumps in FoM?

Do you feel that CoL would be a potent t1 deck without its hyper effective and microscopic defense?

Is the CoL defense what allowed it to be as good as it was?

Would you run a chump defense in FoM?

Is the cheapest defense the most effective?

Do you see significant counters to chump blocks in a FoM meta?

In the absence of the blistering fast and neigh unstoppable Children deck, I don't see other decks running chumps with the same efficacy. Other offenses will get stopped before they can win.

1. With a deck that draws all of its souls out in turn one or two I imagine that you needed to have to have blocks you can depend on. Otherwise, you have people walking in for free souls.

2. I think the defense helped for sure, but the strength of the deck is winning on the second or third turn. Unless your opponent is doing the same, a small chump block defense is the perfect match for the offense which is enabled by the deceiver.

3. It really depends on the meta. I think throne will rise to the forefront again as well as white/brown decks. If chump blocks continue to deliver solid blocks against these types of offenses, I don't see them going away in the next meta.

4. Define cheap.

5. Babel is going to be the card that can really answer that question. Are people gonna use it? Who knows at this point? I think the flood survivors have a lot of answers to chump blocks and now with ANB they can reset a turn and rescue again.

I feel like part of the reason chump blocks saw a resurgence was that they were effective against clay offenses and like you say CoL itself. With clay probably being "rotated out" with the advent of the new set,  throne with some combination of BoM looks really good right now. And moses is pretty hard on most chumps. Throw in Babel and its probably not a defense most people will now, i'd expect to see a lot of them.  That and more importantly, moabites seem like the defense to beat as of right now with there versatility through reserve access and potential to squeeze in sabbath breaker and vittles nicely.

Chump blocks combined with dom blocks can work well in any deck that has enough speed and power to win in the first 4-5 turns.

I think people will still use chump blocks, but I think they are more likely to be "in brigade" chumps (like using Uzzah in a Brown defense or Fire Foxes in an Animal, Crimson, or Black defense).

Personally I think the most effective defense is the most versatile one. No defense has an answer to everything (which is the way it should be), but there's a few who have more answers than others.

Personally I think the best counter to chump blocks is still Coliseum, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that make a comeback as people need to use Woes on other things they can't get around.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Babel and [EDITED BY R.O.S.E.S.] included in decks that run Coliseum, since Woes can't stop them all.

This sounds like 3 setup cards in an anb meta
