Title: TN tournaments
Post by: Crashfach2002 on May 21, 2018, 02:30:03 PM
Hey everyone,

I'm sorry for the long delay and even late announcement!

TN state was to be held by Rex Adams in Dunlap, TN & Regional was to be held by me in Knoxville.

Due to a job change and other circumstances both of these tournaments will be held in Knoxville.

I'm sending the paperwork to Rob today (as we just verified the dates this last weekend).

TN state is planned to be June 15th & 16th.

Regional is planned to be July 13th & 14th.

The schedule for both tournaments is planned as:

Friday night @ 6:00 P.M.
Booster Draft or Type 1 - Multi

Saturday morning @ 8:00 A.M. (ish)
     Type 1 - 2 Player or Sealed

Saturday afternoon @ 2:00 P.M. (ish)
    Teams or Type 2 - 2 Player

This allows for younger players to acquire cards in booster before possibly wanting to add them to their type 1 decks.  This also makes sure there is a "free" option every time.

I'm doing a $10 entry free, then all the open categories are free.

Sealed is $15, unless you give me back my starter deck and you pay just $7 for the packs you open!

I'm putting a cost of $20 for booster, with the expectation of boosting with the 5 new boxes (EC, PC, CoW, RoJ & FoM).  But if you are coming and planning on playing booster I'll offer several different options!

Option 1:  EC, PC, CoW, RoJ, FoM
Option 2:  PA, K, PS, EC, CoW, RoJ & FoM
Option 3:  UL, PR, AP, PA, K, AW, PS, TxP, DI & FoM

Depending on what people want to do, I have put together all 7 (current) foil packs to draft with and we can add them for $9.  So we could do a late night "old school booster" if people want to.

One last option:  We could up the price and add other packs.  If people want to get really frisky, we could make the price $40 and I'll include all of the following packs:

Unlimited, Prophets, Women, Apostles, Patriarchs, Kings, Angel Wars, Priests, TxP, Disciples, Early Church, Persecuted Church, Cloud of Witnesses, Revelation of John & Fall of Man.

My only suggestion:  If you end up boosting a ton of packs, I would have 2-player games.  Otherwise all the decks will look like this (http://www.cactusforums.com/other-tournament-winners/mega-draft-winning-tournament-deck/) and most games will be coin flips to see who can win the flip 3 times in a row:

1. Did you go first?
2. Did you always have a LS to attack for?
3. Did anyone manage to get a successful block against you with their lone EC?

*I'm not trying to demean the super booster that was just conducted down in Florida or SilencedMatrix' winning deck - I'm just pointing out that when you boost that many cards, everyone can build a 50 card deck of offense.  Which makes about half the cards drafted (i.e. evil cards) worthless.  Why not make the draft much more strategic with 1 vs 1 games?

I'm with you Josh!  I actually already applied for both of these tournaments to be 1v1 games for booster.  That is what they are doing at Nationals, so it would be good to practice that against "higher quality" players at big tournaments.

Chris, will you have boxes for sale?

Um, let me say packs for sale.  I have ordered several boxes, but between two large tournaments with both having booster and sealed.  I'm not sure how many I will have left.  I can certainly try to order some more before Regional as well, but spent my entire budget on the products I needed to supply.  So if you want, you could get some packs, and "pre-order" some boxes for me that I can hope to have in time for later tournaments!

Great tournament, thanks for the other out of state guys who made the trip. Solid tune up, don't let a t2 guy win regionals.  ;)

Haha great quote. Once again a T2 guy has won T1 in Tennessee again. For state and regionals an out of state primarily type 2 player have won both times. Thanks for showing up Justin, that was awesome.
