2012 Nationals Booster Draft (VOTE NOW!) (AGAIN!)
« on: August 02, 2012, 09:40:30 PM »

OK, Rob likes tins but is willing to do something different.  I have acquired Womens packs so those are also an option.  Let me know what you guys would like.  Just remember, not everyone is going to get the option they want, so if this becomes a problem this thread will be deleted and I will flip a coin to see what we do.   :)

P.S.  if you are wondering, the reason I'm hating on the Angel Wars packs is because based on how good the cards in the packs actually are Angel Wars just doesn't stack up.  It has some really good Lost Souls and a couple of good Ultra-Rares but what else?

NOTE:  Please only vote if you are actually going to be playing booster draft at Nationals THIS year.  Thank you very much!

I actually like Angel Wars in booster draft (not as an actual pack, its pretty much the worst pack outside of prophets), because it gives a good amount of silver cards, and silver cards can be hard to get out of the other packs at times.  Also its always fun to see everybody at the table have a different panic demon that matched the color they were going for so they all end up banding together.

I can't remember if I was doing the booster draft, I think that I am, but I would like to use tins, just not some tins that would be way overpowered in booster.

The two packs that add the most to Booster draft are Womens and Angel wars, with the other packs falling (much) further behind. Although I agree with Crashfach2002 that AW has (in general) weaker cards, in booster draft it give everyone a secondary offensive brigade--silver--that they can be sure to get cards for. The only other set close to this is Priests (for Teal), and it really isn't much of a comparison.

I like AW in booster too, but the best way to draft is with 6 packs, TxP and Di. For real.

I'm not as anti tin as others though I do agree that there are strong power differences.  The main point for me is that I like more cards to draft from and the 8 booster pack option gives us the most cards by my count.  Plus Di and TexP have some really fun cards in them and also include warriors and angel wars.

I would prferablly have the tins. If some of the tins were excluded, it would solve the issues of overpowered decks because of tin can cards.

I don't like tins in booster draft just because they determine what you are playing usually and some tins are just way better than others.

Honestly, womens packs make booster draft 50% more interesting. Claudia, Falling Away, Job's Wife/Sapphira, sites, etc. are just awesome to have in a draft. I would love TexP and Disciples, but Womens packs take precedence because they're better. If we could have the second to last option with womens, I'd be all for it...

That might not be an option, as these are pretty much the best 5 options to keep my cost below $15.  Now the women's packs are being "donated" but they were being held for a Nationals hosted by the donor.  So I feel obligated to pay him for the packs being used and if they are not included in the cost in the first place I will have to pay out of pocket for them.  But, this could always change so we will see what happens!

Note:

Oh and by the way the only way I could afford the one option you are requesting would be:

Original
Prophets
Kings
Priests
TxP
Disciples

Glad to see the way this vote is shaping up, and I hope it will be actually implemented. Tins are the worst thing to happen to Booster. It would still have been bad if the tins had been balanced for Booster, but as it is it's downright terrible!
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

8 cards should really seem silly, but Womens packs undoubtedly raise the bar for the entire game. It came at the sweet spot that all card games have where the generically powerful cards were at a peak (band to any evil character, discard a male EC...) but before balance was carefully weighed (Discard the top card of deck to discard an EC...). With draft being full of dead-weight cards, it's awesome to open a pack with a tight ratio of useful cards (including sites!).

Whatever you choose to do if fine, just know you'll find the Redemption community overwhelmingly in favor of any option with Womens in Booster.  :D

Yes.

The only cards worth having in Apostles usually crop up in TxP/Di anyway.
The Patriarchs is a small concession to make to have both Womens and the two 'box' style expansions.

I enjoy the last option. I was a little worried about playing with tins because of the supernew tins which kick butt.

I have 30 Patriarchs packs and 15 Angel Wars packs. I would be willing to donate* either or both sets to upgrade Booster Draft if the host would be alright with that.

Are there any other players who would be willing to donate packs to make up any shortfall?

P.S. Although I am not planning on playing Booster I voted in the poll for my 9 yo son, who is planning on playing.  I hope that was alright.

*By donate I mean give for free, although I may ask to have the event renamed to the 2012 Booster Draft sponsored by EmJayBee83.**

**Not really.***

***Not really for the renaming part. I would be happy to donate the packs.

I have 3 Kings, 2 Priests, and $12 Redemption Cash. If you'd let me trade those in for other packs, I'd totally donate them.

Out of curiosity, since it looks like we'll be playing without tins, what will the open order be? Personally, I like the prospect of starting with Di/TxP and moving backwards, to give decks a little more focus.

Even if you could get 9 more people to vote for that tin option, it probably still would not "win" the poll so to speak, because there are still a lot of votes for a different non-tin option, and most who voted for that option would probably prefer the option that is currently winning over a tin option.

I will bring the Patriarchs.  Between RDT, the Wraith and myself we are only going to be about 15 short (guesstimate of 60 players in Booster). Having faith that those can be found.

I have ~100 wrappers that I can turn in for Pats to donate, as well as a few Apostles packs that I would be willing to trade in for Pats as needed.

Yeah, I'm bringing 200+ wrappers now. We should definitely have enough.
