Title: 2010 North Central Regionals--July 23, 24 (Final Update)
Post by: EmJayBee83 on June 07, 2010, 10:59:00 PM
I look forward to seeing old friends and making some new ones this weekend. For thsoe coming from out of town, I will pray that God bless your travels.

If anyone wants/needs my cell number for the tournament please feel free to send me a PM and ask. I am planning on leaving my house tomorrow around 11:00 am, so sending the PM before then would be good. ;) I will also have internet access at the church and will check PMs/e-mail periodically once I get things organized.

Here are the tournament details as they currently stand...

Dates: Friday July 23 and Saturday July 24.

Times: Friday July 23 5:00 pm
           Saturday July 24 Session I   8:30 am
Saturday July 24 Session II   5:00 pm  (estimate)

Events: All seven sanctioned events.

Cost:  $10 Entrance Fee/Maximum $15 per family*/Spouses play free!**
          $10 Sealed Deck
          $15 Booster Draft

Payment: I will accept Redemption cash for the entry fees (but not Sealed/Booster, sorry).
The only drawback is that I just don't want to mess around making change for
Redemption cash, so I won't. If you want to give me a $12 Redemption cash
voucher for the $10 entry fee I won't turn you down, however.

Saturday lunch will be pizza for $5 for three slices of pizza, chips and soda.

***When making the original schedule I forgot about Type S. The local Fire Marshall will not allow us to play both T2 events and Type S in the same day.

Title: Update!! Re: 2010 North Central Regionals--July 23, 24
Post by: EmJayBee83 on June 08, 2010, 01:38:20 PM
Since RDT deleted the post I was responding to, I will use this as a follow-up post...

UPDATE #1
I have flipped TEAMS and T1-MP for scheduling purposes. I really want to end Saturday evening sometime and not extend into the wee hours of Sunday.  This necessitates ending with two MP events. Since at least one of the events had to be available for young-uns to play in, that means T1-MP.

UPDATE #2
Also, voting on what to us in Booster continues. If you are planning on playing Booster at the NC Regional please vote if you care.

So far we have Packs crushing Tins by a 2:1 margin.  ;)

Packs Only:  Prof Alstad
                    Rawrlolsauce
                    JSB23
                    Soundman

Tins:             Master K Chief
                    Bubbleboy

UPDATE #4
If anyone is interested in buying a complete set of FoOF/RoA for $30/$27 + shipping let me know. If we go the packs route, I could use the money from selling the set(s) to pay for Women.

Do you have the new expansion? The Brinkmans got it in the mail while I was at their house for a game day a few weeks ago. (We didn't actually play it, though, because they didn't have enough of the right sleeves.)

Post by: Rawrlolsauce! on June 21, 2010, 03:03:54 AM
No. He just used teh old schoolz pax last year, so I could see him doing that + TXP this year. You probably should just shoot him a message or wait for him to drop by, though.

Post by: Rawrlolsauce! on June 21, 2010, 03:08:13 AM
That is correct. I believe he opened a bunch of ROA tins in front of us and sold the ROA set for like $30 and gave us the packs for booster ;).
Title: Re: 2010 North Central Regionals--July 23, 24
Post by: EmJayBee83 on June 21, 2010, 12:48:08 PM
If anyone has any suggestions as to what they would like to see used for booster at the NC Regionals, feel free to post here or PM me.

he didnt use tins last year?
No. Last year at the MN State tournament I went with an old school theme. I used E & F starters for Sealed. I aligned Booster with the theme by skipping the tin and giving eight packs to each player--Unlimited/Prophets/Women/Apostles/Patriarchs/Kings/Angel Wars/Priests.  (Oh and Wild BIll opened a case of Warriors for Type-S.  ;) )

The main reason for this choice was that the most vocal group of MN players prefer Booster over both Foofter and Roaster, especially at the end of the season when cheap tin cards are not a huge selling point. A side benefit was that Prof Alstad was able to purchase a complete set of RoA for cheap, and his money went directly to purchasing the packs of Women.

If anyone is interested in buying a complete set or two of FoOF/RoA for $30/$27 you could  let me know that also.

i personally would prefer roa/foof tins. perhaps we can do old skool + tin cards for a super draft? :)
Title: Re: 2010 North Central Regionals--July 23, 24
Post by: Rawrlolsauce! on June 21, 2010, 01:48:25 PM
I could be interested in the FOOF. Depends how poor I am when it comes around :p.

I prefer traditional over the tins tbh. Beings I usually get paired with someone who has the same color.

Because I assume everyone would like TexP included in the draft. The cost of a Tin + AW + Patriarchs/Kings + Women + TexP is greater than the $15 that the event is capped at. Even mixing FoOF/RoA is problematical for the same reason--which is why Nationals charges $20.

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TEAMS AND BOOSTER AT THE SAME TIME???!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  TEAMS AND BOOSTER AT THE SAME TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As I have said in the past and will always continue to say, Classic Draft>Tin Draft, and if you expect any help from me at all over the course of the tourney, Matt, you will not have Tins in the draft...

Just kidding, I'd still be glad to help, but my preference won't change. Classic Draft all the way!

Hey Tim,

I tried to explain the reasons in the third post of the thread.  The main reason is that I don't want to have to hold what is essentially a single-player event at the end of Saturday. I am afraid that we would end up needing too many rounds and that we might not get out of the church until Sunday morning. Especially since I would like to hold the one more than the minimum number of rounds for each event.

I'm sorry to upset your plans. Is there any chance you can make it for the Friday round?  If it helps, I can delay the start of TEAMS for a bit to allow you an hour or so of extra time. I wouldn't want to push the start back much past 8:00 pm, however.

Yeah.... Now its paired against T2-MP instead............
Once again, see my post at spot #3 of the thread for an explanation. Holding seven official events over a day and a half is kind of a pain scheduling-wise.

Info is up on our site! http://web.me.com/pmhander/Redemptionatnhlc/RedemptionNHLC.html  (http://web.me.com/pmhander/Redemptionatnhlc/RedemptionNHLC.html)
Thanks, Soundman!

No. You will have to pick one.

Given the number of young folk likely to attend, I can't in good conscience have any of the sessions go beyond midnight. And if we learned nothing else at MN State, we did learn that running events consecutively on Friday night will end up running into the wee of Saturday.

I vote we do T1 2p, T1 Multi, T2 2P, T2 Multi, Teams, and Booster on Friday simultaneously and do sealed on Saturday.
Have I told you recently that I like the cut of your jib, young man?

Hey All,

I am going to be on vacation for the next week. When I get back I will make final determinations on all controversies still outstanding. (Please note there will be no further changes to the schedule which is given in the first post.) In particular I will look at any further votes on the Booster (packs only) vs FoOFter/ROAster (tins) debate and make a final determination.  So if you have a preference and plan to play in booster please post below and let me know. If it makes any difference to people, the classic booster would include Women amongst the packs handed out.

Guys, MJB told me that I'm in charge while he is gone. Shapen up, boys.

Also:
If anyone is interested in buying a complete set or two of FoOF/RoA for $30/$27 you could  let me know that also.
I want a FOOF set. Better save it for me ;)

Ooh, that does make a difference. I've never played booster with Women packs before. I think I'm gonna have to vote for the packs.

So if you and Andrew and Nathan are all playing TEAMS, will there be ANYONE playing T2-Multi? Justin will be in Colombia so he won't be there. Matt will be hosting, so he won't be playing. Maybe I should give up my aspirations to be the Regional Sealed Deck champion and play what looks like it might be an easy category...

Hey don't forget to bring my sleeping bag back when you come for Nationals. Our plane leaves early in the morning, are you staying over the night before or are you meeting us at the Airport?

if I could stay over, that'd be much easier.
