Title: 2009 Nationals Location and Dates
Post by: CactusRob on January 29, 2009, 04:03:54 PM
It's official.  The 2009 Redemption National Tournament will be held at the Evangelical Free Church of the Conejo Valley in
Newbury Park, California July 30, 31 and August 1st.  The event is being co-hosted by Mike Wolfe and Bryon Hake.  We will soon be posting a website link with further information on hotels, schedule, airports and so on.

Note:  They have also reserved the church for July 29th toward possibly holding some of the extra events like Iron Man on Wednesday.

Congratulations to Mike and Bryon.  California here we come.

Sincerely,
Rob Anderson

Well, I don't know much about tourney history, but apparently there was one in MN...4 years ago? I wasn't into Redemption at the time, but I remember I got back into it almost literally the day after Nats was over, as I discovered soon afterwards. ::) I hope it rolls back around here soon, because I would really like to attend and join all the fun, but for now, congrats to California. :)

I know you guys have a lot of questions on the logistics. If you can wait a few days, we'll be putting up a web site that will have information on the church facilities, location, hotels, airports, tourist attractions, alternate lodging options, etc.

Much more to come....

Plan Road Trip California
Step 1: Get nationals approved to be in CA. Check!
Step 2: Clear dates for nationals...

Much nicer attitude, Raven.  If history is any indication, it'll be somewhere near you again next year.

Here's just a quick Google map (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=999+Rancho+Conejo+Blvd,+Newbury+Park,+CA&sll=34.196043,-118.911896&sspn=0.069288,0.142479&ie=UTF8&ll=34.144771,-118.729248&spn=0.58078,1.139832&t=h&z=10) of the tourney locaton.  Los Angeles (the second largest city in America & the largest in California) is pretty much a half hour east on the 101 freeway, though Thousand Oaks and Oxnard are pretty good sized cities.  Once you hit the 405, you're pretty much in Los Angeles territory.

And Raven, kudos on your change in attitude. :)

Of course, maybe I'll be able to swing having most of the month of July off before returning to work....heh, just maybe...Since we don't get back from our honeymoon until July 5, then the Ohio reception on the 18th...so I guess there is a small break there. And once again, I'll be so close to Nats... yet so far away (and ironically, they'll be for the same reason). I'll be in Arizona on a mission trip that week, about 6 hours from the location darn it. Last year was even worse though, I was in the town it was - specifically, the airport, on layover before going back home from Arizona. Let's shoot for Holbrook, AZ next year!

I'm just wondering if there is any new info out yet?  I know it hasn't been very long but I like to get things planned as much as possible ahead of time.  I hope answers to these questions will help others as well as myself. Some of the questions I have are....

1. Any chance of really cheap (like near free or free) sleeping areas at Nats?  If there isn't, what are some of the closest cheap motels (Motel 6, Super 8, etc..)?
2. Has the schedual for which events are on which days been decided yet?
3. How close are fast food places to the location of the tourney?
4. When will pre-registration begin?
5. I can't really think of a fifth question other then is there a minute mart near the location that sells Icees? Not that this matters but an Icee sounds really good at the moment and I'm stuck in my office. :-\
6. Any other information that you can give is great.

And the more I think about it the more important the Icee question is to me so I need that answer as well.  ;D ;)

1. Any chance of really cheap (like near free or free) sleeping areas at Nats?  If there isn't, what are some of the closest cheap motels (Motel 6, Super 8, etc..)?
You'll have to wait for Mike on this one.  There is a Motel 6 nearby, but he seems to have a better deal elsewhere.
I know Mike thought people could stay at the church, but I never heard a definate answer.

2. Has the schedual for which events are on which days been decided yet?
It will likely match last year's Nats schedual, as Bryon usually uses that ordering for Southwest Regionals.  Not positive, though.

3. How close are fast food places to the location of the tourney?
There are these options within 1 mile:
- Jack in the Box (the semi-official fast food of Arcadia Redemption tourneys)
- Wendy's
- Subway
- El Pollo Loco
- In-N-Out
- Del Taco
- McDonald's
- Chipotle Mexican Grill
- Taco Bell

Right next door to the tourney is a deli, but I'm not sure if it would be open to us (might be connected with company in same building).

4. When will pre-registration begin?
Another question for Mike/Bryon.

5. I can't really think of a fifth question other then is there a minute mart near the location that sells Icees? Not that this matters but an Icee sounds really good at the moment and I'm stuck in my office. :-\
Yes, there is a 7-11 less than a half mile away.

6. Any other information that you can give is great.
Singing a VeggieTales theme while playing Kurt is your only chance at distracting him long enough to win.

If it's the deciding factor in you attending or not, I'll see what I can do :)

Ah, I thought you were making a completely different joke.  My mistake.

6. Any other information that you can give is great.

A couple more things:
- Learn what California Style (http://redemptionca.com/Tips/variations/CaliforniaStyle.htm) is.
- Anyone that will have their birthday while they're out here that wants to go to Disneyland can get in free on their birthday per new Disney promotion (proof of age required).

fixed. silly ninja, think you they still exist?

4. When will pre-registration begin?
Another question for Mike/Bryon.
shouldn't they add that to the REG? I mean, that's where they put all their other answers about redemption.

That's an oximoron. And to prove that that they exist... NATS IS IN CA!!!

And unless you go to nats(which should just be in your state, right?) and prove me wrong, then I will assume that either Minnesota doesn't exist, or it is just called California.  ;D

it is in Minnesota. I cannot go because my father said I cannot go. Rob just doesn't know anything about current maps.

You know, no matter how many times I try that, I still like the official rulebook style better. Maybe I'm weird. :P

Sorry to say that with the location I will not be headed out to the far reaches of our western states
