Title: 10th Annual Type 2 Only
Post by: everytribe on January 04, 2015, 09:03:41 PM
Calling all Type 2 players within 15 hours driving distance of MN or willing to fly in. Best tune up for National. Type 2 is a lot of fun right now. No dominant deck type, lots of options for good decks. It’s cold now in Minnesota but by March 13, it will be plenty warm.

Details for the 10th Annual Type 2 Only
Redemption Tournament March 13 - March 14, 2015
Location:  North Heights Lutheran Church
 Arden Hills- Upper Centrum
 1700 W. Highway 96
 Arden Hills, MN   55112

Lodging:  Stay overnight in the church on Friday night, doors open at 6:00pm.
Money is available to help with traveling expenses for anyone traveling from outside the great state of Minnesota.  The last couple years we have had a number of people fly in.
Cost:  Free
Pizza, pop, etc… will be available for purchase.

Tentative schedule:
Friday:  7:00    Type 2-Multiplayer (2-3 rounds depends on numbers and how late everybody wants to play)
Other games will be available to play (bring your favorite).
After Multi is over we will play some specialty category to be determined.(Winning prize will be the only signed Buckler Promo in existence)  Of course there is always a Perkins Run.

8:00-8:30   Breakfast for those staying overnight
8:30-9:00   Registration and deck check in
9:00-6:00   Type 2-2 player, 6 rounds (5 was too few, 7 was too many so 6 it will be)

We will be having an Ironman Tournament on Saturday for both those in attendance not playing Type 2 and those in attendance playing Type 2. Winner will receive prizes.

Besides normal prizes for a local tournament: 1, 2 & 3rd place winners of Type 2-2 player and Type-2 Multiplayer will get a chance for a special prize. 1st place in each category will get three chances, 2nd place two chances and 3rd place one chance. So if you won Type 2-2 player and placed 3rd in Type 2-Multiplayer, you would have a 4 in 12 chance to win the 4 Ultra-Rares in The Early Church Set.

If you are planning on staying overnight send me a PM so we can plan for you.

YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aren't there only three unique Dominants in The Early Church?

I think it should be Sealed Teams. Winners will get the Buckler Promo ripped in half. It wouldn't be fair if anybody ever got to use it in a tournament.

Hm... Not totally sure what my "sourish" was supposed to mean... I got a smart phone for Christmas and since then I'm kind slacking on the whole "paying attention to auto-correct" thing. Now I don't even know what that word was supposed to be. Anyway, I'm down for some Sealed Teams.

Sealed TEAMS:

Cost would be $10 but players can provide their own starters and packs and play for free. (Players would also need to provide their own sleeves. I will trade pack for pack if someone doesn't have the right packs they would like to use.)

Each team either gets the H and J deck or the G and I deck.

Each team member gets to pick 1 pack from the following groupings--

Apostles/Patriarchs/Angel Wars

Priests/Kings

TexP/Disciples/Early Church

Teammates can trade any cards from the starter decks or packs between themselves.

Normal TEAMS rules in effect.

Any thoughts?

And teams can choose to trade with their first opponent(s), right?

Also, there should purposely be a site limit as in typical Sealed. 1 per team, perhaps?
Title: Re: 10th Annual Type 2 Only
Post by: The Guardian on January 05, 2015, 11:07:01 PM
I think trading with just your teammate would be enough otherwise it will take too much time.

One Site per team might be okay but I'm fine if people would rather not use Sites at all.
Title: Re: 10th Annual Type 2 Only
Post by: TheJaylor on January 05, 2015, 11:13:22 PM
I feel like we could just give teams 5 minutes to figure their own cards, 5 minutes to trade with the other team, and 5 to finalize their deck (including sleeving and getting it set to be checked). That only 15 minutes and we have ALL night (except, ya know, Perkins).

No sites is also fine with me, we can take a vote I guess. My vote will probably be no sites.

Also, (@Justin) teammates?

Maybe, but we can see what the majority would prefer.

Sealed TEAMS is a lot of fun.  I played it once at a Redemption for Micah tournament.

We just used one sealed deck for each team.  That way each team started with the same cards.  I think I&J would work great for that.

Then each team got to pick 6 boosters of any foil pack (or 9 prophets, or 18 original, or 3 TxP, or 3 Disciples).  They could then split up their card pool however they wanted.  They could give all the offense to one player and all the defense to another.  They could keep the starter decks intact and just trade in the better cards they got from packs.  They could take out all the defense and replace it with offense from packs.  Whatever they thought was the best strategy.

We didn't allow any trading with any other teams, and that did probably save time.  It was a really interesting tournament and everyone seemed to really enjoy it.  I'd be glad to try it again :)

Speaking of which I do plan on showing up to the T2-Only for the first time.  I've wanted to come for many years, and I'm glad to finally be able to make it!

I think adding G/H will provide for more variety and strategy as opposed to every game being an I/J vs I/J matchup. We may end up seeing one pairing do much better than the other but it's just for fun after all. I would even be willing to let each team pick its pairing initially and see if it doesn't split pretty evenly.

Well, being that the majority of people there will be brothers d in Christ, it'd be rather difficult to play the category. I mean, I don't think there will be enough girls there for each guy to not be with a bro.

(@Justin(and Tim)) Anyway, if Britta and Tim are there, dibs on Britta.

So, I guess if we're going to do Sealed Teams we're going to need to figure out a splittable prize... One signed Buckler promo seems like it'd be hard to split, especially if someone gets a Haman's Gallows.

Well since it is a local tournament, I will donate 2 TEC packs for the first place prize. If others would like to donate to the prize package, that would be cool. Maybe Bill would be willing to give each winning team member one entry in the Grand Prize drawing?  :)

Yes, but then they are not worth anything.  This is why the government does not print all the money it can make.  He wouldn't do that, that would be silly.

I would be willing to donate 4 signed promos. Goliath, Daniel, Faithful Servant and Buckler.

That's not a Faithful Servant from The Hobbit by chance, is it?  ;)

They are all signed by the Hobbit. They are rarer than the Woman Error cards. There is only 2 Goliath's, 2 Daniel's, 5 Faithful Servant's and 1Buckler in existence.
Yes but they aren't out of print (the Hobbit can keep signing cards) ;)

Yes, but I would rather get a card signed by Rob than TheHobbit (no offence hobbit) ;) or maybe Doug Gray

But there are many more cards that are signed my Rob or Doug, the Hobbits signature is rarer, as so worth more.

I am sorry to announce that the 3 members of the Maly family will be unable to make it this year, as Tim will be in a friend's wedding in Iowa on March 14th. (Yes, they chose their wedding date based on Pi Day). I was hoping it would be scheduled earlier like it has been the last few years because we will be coming to the Cities next weekend since I will be on Spring Break.

P.S.
In case you missed it...yes, there is a third player pending in the Maly family.  ;)

The 3 Maly's will be replaced by 4 Canadians who will be invading MN.

You better watch out,
You better not cry,
You better not pout,
I'm telling you why:
CountFount is coming to town!

Their building their decks,
Checking them twice,
Going to find out who's wicked or nice
The Type 2 Tournament is coming to town!
Craig will bug you when your sleeping.
He'll bug you when your awake.
You’ll know if you have been paired with Craig,
When you laugh for goodness sake!

You better watch out,
You better not cry,
You better not pout,
I'm telling you why:
CountFount is coming to town!

My Therapist is still negotiating with my parole officer and the voice in my thumb as to which Stargate will take me to your location in Southern Canada. It is amazing to me that Bill's gift for music has never taken him to the stage and only to Alcatraz.

Okay it looks like we have 4 coming from KC. My Son Jacob, Scottie Hoover (Resurrected from a few years departed) and a noob Bryan Reynolds. Be nice to Bryan he has only had one teacher... You guessed it. I expect you all to give him hope that he can recover from my tutoring. He also may need a partner for the Teams event. I have a partner, if he doesn't run off to a wedding. So any of you slackers who may want to play but aren't sure how to cover that extreme fee, I will pay your fee to be Brian's partner as long as you promise to water board him into a better understanding of the game than I have given him. My goal is the same as always: If your last name begins with the letter "A"....DEAD. If you look like Taliban residing in Eastern Iowa....DEAD. If you think Wild Bill is tall.....DEAD....in a very Christian way.  ;)

The type 2 only is finally here! But there are so many questions that need answering. How many categories will the Alstads win? Will Gabe pass airport security? Will Emjaybee/and or Wild Bill keep his shirt on the whole time? Will Craig win a game? Who knows come and find out!!!

Answers in the order asked:
-green
- only if they are real slow
- only if I don't when a game
- only if green isn't a category

I regret that I wasn't able to make it to the T2-only this year.  It turned out that the weekend between my son's and daughter's birthdays ended up being booked with a surprise blessing from God.  Some friends of ours were given enough extra wristbands to ride all the rollercoasters at Mall of America, that they invited all 4 of my kids to join them for a couple days of super fun there.  They all had a blast (as did I since I rode a few with them as well).  We also were given the chance to stay for a night in the hotel there and go swimming in the pool.  That plus treating us for a couple meals out, and it was an all-inclusive paid staycation.  We were completely unprepared for this generosity.  It really made for a wonderful birthday celebration for both of my kids who were celebrating for the first time without all their Oakdale friends.  I'm just so thankful for how God has provided for our family in such amazing ways.

The only downside was that it meant that we weren't able to make it to the T2-only tournament.  Maybe next year :)
