Some questions for football fans

Hey, if you consider yourself a football fan (be it moderate, rabid or somewhere in between), here's a survey of sorts to start some football (NFL) discussion.

1. Biggest surprise this year?

2. Bigger disappointment: Jacksonville or San Diego? (I picked these two since they were supposedly Super Bowl contenders and they won't even make the play-offs)

3. Rookie of the year?

4. League MVP?

5. Team you would least like your favorite team to be facing? (Also indicate your favorite team)

6. Most overrated team?

7. Most underrated player?

8. Super Bowl pick for NFC?

9. Super Bowl pick for AFC?

10. Any rants?

My picks:
1. Despite the Titans great start, I really think the Dolphins are the biggest surprise after going 1-15 last year.
2. I have to say San Diego since they play in such a bad division. Jacksonville is in a division with the Titans and Colts so they had a tougher schedule.
3. Has to be Matt Ryan. Chris Johnson and Joe Flaco are contenders but Ryan literally turned the Falcons around from a mess last season.
4. If the Vikings make a play-off run with Adrian Peterson leading the way, I think he should get it. If not, I think it should easily be Kurt Warner.
5. Giants -- unfortunately my Vikes have to play them and the Giants aren't known for resting starters in meaningless games for them.
6. The New York Jets...they lost to Oakland...c'mon.
7. Eli Manning
8. New York Giants
9. Tennessee Titans
10. I think the NFL has gone too far with cracking down on player celebrations. It's supposed to be entertainment and they're just not giving players any leeway. I definitely think there should be penalties for taunting, but celebration penalties are just ridiculous.

1. Biggest surprise this year?  Atlanta Falcons

2. Bigger disappointment: Jacksonville or San Diego?  San Diego

3. Rookie of the year?  WAY too hard to pick this year!

4. League MVP?  Two weeks ago it was Kurt Warner.  Now it's close between a few.

5. Team you would least like your favorite team to be facing?  Since my team is the 49ers I'll just answer with the team no one wants to face right now: NY Giants.

6. Most overrated team?  Tie: Dallas Cowboys and all AFC East teams

7. Most underrated player?  Thomas Jones, Jets

8. Super Bowl pick for NFC?  NY Giants

9. Super Bowl pick for AFC?  Pittsburgh Steelers

10. Any rants?  I have been impressed with more bold coaching decisions occurring this year, but there are still way too many sissy coaching decisions as a whole.
Final ANB errata: Return player to game.

1.  Miami Dolphins are doing amazing compared to last year so I'm going to have to go with them.

2. San Diego

3. That's a really tough question, it has to be either Chris Johnson, Matt Ryan, or Joe Flacco.

4. I'm going with Warner.

5. My team is the Vikings so i would have to say Pittsburgh with the great Pass D they have.

6. The Titans. The loss to the Jets proves that they're not as good as everybody says.

7. Matt Cassel

8. Minnesota Vikings.

9. Miami Dolphins.

1. Biggest surprise this year?
That Detroit didn't sign Jeff George

2. Bigger disappointment: Jacksonville or San Diego? (I picked these two since they were supposedly Super Bowl contenders and they won't even make the play-offs)
Tomlinson, nuff said.

3. Rookie of the year?
Don't know, don't really care.

4. League MVP?
Would have said Portis until he got his laundry list of injuries that have led to his severly decreased performance.  It could go several places because I don't think there is any one who stands out.  Warner is a good pick, maybe Eli Manning.

5. Team you would least like your favorite team to be facing? (Also indicate your favorite team)
St Louis

6. Most overrated team?
Titans

7. Most underrated player?
Thigpen

8. Super Bowl pick for NFC?
Giants

9. Super Bowl pick for AFC?
Pittsburg

10. Any rants?
I've scored 200 more total points that all but 1 person in one of my fantasy leagues.  I'm 6-7.  Lost a game ~140-130, and have had 4 people get their highest weeks totals against me.  Arg.  On the plus side, I'm in first place in my yahoo league after losing Brady in week one.

1. Biggest surprise this year?
Tom Brady out for the season!

2. Bigger disappointment: Jacksonville or San Diego?
San Diego, and that has alot to do with LT.

3. Rookie of the year?
Joe Flacco.

4. League MVP?
Adrian Peterson. ;)

5. Team you would least like your favorite team to be facing?
Giants.  The Steelers defense is amazing, but can it contain that machine?(I actually like the Raiders, but...ahem...Steelers are my second pick.  For the Raiders: Any team.)

6. Most overrated team?
Jets.  Like someone else said...I mean, I love Oakland, but they stink for the time being.  And the Jet's lost to them?  And then the Broncos by a landslide?  No.

7. Most underrated player?
Matt Forte.

8. Super Bowl pick for NFC?
New York Giants

9. Super Bowl pick for AFC?
Pittsburgh Steelers

10. Any rants?
Raiders coaching...*grumble*

Just thought I'd check back in on my Rookie of the Year selection at this point.  Currently, the best candidates are:

Joe Flacco
Matt Ryan
Matt Forte
Chris Johnson
Steve Slaton
DeSean Jackson
Eddie Royal

Since RoY <> MVP, I would have to vote for Matt Forte who I believe is putting together the best all-around season for a rookie.

1. Brett Favre playing for a different team!  :o

2. San Diego.

3. Brett Favre!

4. That's a tough one. Brett Favre. Seriously, I know I"m bias, but 6 TD in one game? WOW!

5. I'm a Packer fan, but I want the Jets to win the super bowl this year. I want them to hit the packers in the Super Bowl. That would be SO epic!

6. Steelers.

7. Brett Favre or Reggie Bush.

8. Which one is which?  :P

9. Which one is which?  :P

For 8 and nine... Jets vs. Giants(forgot that they were in it)(if that's an option).

10. Don't ask rediculous question.  8)

1. Biggest surprise this year?
Miami Dolphins.  I honestly thought that the rebuilding process would take at least 2 years.  They lost their defensive team leaders (Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor) and they were 1-15 with a new coach and a rusty Pennington.  Props.

2. Bigger disappointment: Jacksonville or San Diego? (I picked these two since they were supposedly Super Bowl contenders and they won't even make the play-offs)
San Diego is the biggest disappointment this season amongst NFL teams.  They were predicted to play in the Super Bowl by most football experts.  They have one of the more talented rosters in the NFL.  They got tough losses in weeks 1 and 2, but the rest were their own faults.

3. Rookie of the year?
Matt Forte.  He has consistently put up solid rushing and receiving numbers, while scoring a healthy number of TDs.  I suspect a Pro Bowl alternate birth for this young stud.

4. League MVP?
This would have been Kurt Warner or Clinton Portis two weeks ago, but these past two weeks have hurt their cases tremendously.  If the Titans win out the rest of their games, I would think that Albert Haynesworth has a good chance to win it.  With so many teams having mediocre records this season, it is difficult to pick a MVP winner from a team that is not on top of the NFL.

5. Team you would least like your favorite team to be facing? (Also indicate your favorite team)
Giants.  Oh wait, we just did this past week and got owned....

6. Most overrated team?
Dallas Cowboys.  All the hype that your money can buy.

7. Most underrated player?
Chad Pennington

8. Super Bowl pick for NFC?
Panthers

9. Super Bowl pick for AFC?
Ravens

10. Any rants?
I really hate the constant fines that the NFL levies against players for hits and excessive celebration.  I understand the need to protect players from injuries, but the NFL has basically outlawed 99 out of 100 ways to tackle a player at this point.  ::)  I enjoy watching the hard hits, but they are fewer as players are now encouraged to hug the opposing players and hope they fall to the ground from boredom.

1. Miami Dolphins are the biggest surprise--so far. After the playoffs it will be Payton manning holding up the superbowl trophey.

2. Bigger disappointment: San Diego-They had been good for a couple of seasons and had been rather consistent. Plus they just came off the afc championship game.

3. Rookie of the year- Matt Ryan

4. League MVP?- Payton manning. Without him the colts would have won about 2-4 games.

You might laugh but he always gets the job done when his team is in trouble.

Consider his 5td 0int in back to back victories against NE and AWAY vs pittsburg at a time when his team was in trouble. His multiple game saving plays, specificly (vikings and texans). Lastly his 3td and 0ints vs a stingy Baltimore d-fense. All without a legit running game and a horendous run defence.

5. Team you would least like your favorite team to be facing? Colts are my favorite. I would hate to play titans, vikings, and Giants. first too cause of our run-d and Giants b/c they are the best team in football.

6. Most overrated team?- Cardinals "Love Kurt Warner" But they havnt beaten anyone legit.

7. Most underrated player?- its a tie Phillip Rivers/Tony Romo Consider these stats compiled vs the other QB's recieveing MVP reconition. They Compare favorably!
               Passer rating       td       int   attempts
Rivers        102.0                26      10    379

Brees         95.9                 24      14    471

Warner       99.4                 24      11    472

Romo         103.2                21       8     300

8. Super Bowl pick for NFC?-Giants-He is a manning thus he is a jedi.

9. Super Bowl pick for AFC-Colts "does anyone want to play a Manning in the playoffs?"

10. Manning brothers last 2 years. 2 superbowl rings. You heard it here, after this year it will be 3!
Also Tony Romo is ver impressive! I did not compare manning with the other Qb's cause there not worthy! BTW I am in fact not bias nor are my favorite news stations!  ;)

Now is the time of year to see how our predictions turned out.

I was right about the Jaguars being a bigger disappointment than the Chargers.

Matt Cassell was still a big surprise, but unfortunately 12-4 (or was it 11-5?) is not enough for my Patriots to make the playoffs in the AFC.  :'(

We'll have to wait on the MVP and Rookie awards.

I might still be right about the Eagles.

I feel that I was right about Indianapolis being overrated, even though they made the playoffs and my team didn't.  :-\
