Hi there,

just wondering whether it would be something to think about rewarding playing old cards without any abilities by creating appropriate Arts/Sites/Covenants/Curses/TC Characters which allow for reserve access (searching and picking a card from own reserve) whenever you play a card/character/enhancement without ability from hand?

But I fear due to all those loaded and ability crowded cards available today those catalyzers plus old cards won't see much play.

What do you think?

Bye

I like your line of thinking - I definitely would like there to be a way to make old/unused/irrelevant cards useful. That would be really fun and really good for the game in many ways.

But my attampt is meant as an alternative to the never-ending reprinting...

Any other thoughts?

Are you talking about cards like windows of narrow light and Coliseum?

I mean, that's how Cactus stays in business by selling new sets and making the game more interesting. I actually think the game does a fairly decent job of keeping old cards relevant. Just last year we got Watchman, Tabernacle, and some New Jerusalem support.

We try to breathe new life into old cards each year as we design the new stuff. By nature we make more old cards obsolete though.

Selling new packs keeps Redemption going. Cactus doesn’t rely on Redemption anymore (if they ever did). The success of the recent sets has caused growth that is going to lead to some exciting things before the years end.

Yes, kind of...

@Red Wing:
This is no contradiction IMHO. The new set(s) can also contain cards which empower older cards or make using them more intersting/tempting again w/o reprinting everything over and over again. For me this attempt is really interesting and exciting even more since it opens The Reserve to a variety of cards of each brigade (good and evil)! I like the idea of this pattern.

Also, from a economics & collecting standpoint, I like when older cards are still relevant for gameplay. It gives value (beyond sentimental) to older sets, which makes collecting and trading more fun, as well as is better for the overall economy of Redemption cards.

One such example is how King Zedekiah in the Kings set boosted a Prophets set card, Dungeon of Malchiah. Another is Rahab (CoW) boosting Scarlet Line (Wo).

I definitely like reprints too - it's not one or the other - and I'm super excited to learn about what's coming up this year in Redemption!!
