PK homeschoolers hehehehehehe good luck getting a date.

I love how we are randomly spawning debate threads out of things like the utter wyn thread and this one
haha, I think it's my fault...

as for the dating question, that was awesome. but I'm not trying to date, so...

Sometimes you have to have FAITH sometimes you don't need proof like with the Bible.
where is that in the Bible?  :D

not at all. I believe that God is the ultimate source of truth, not faith. I believe that God has revealed himself through his word. (and I can back these up with scripture if you would like)

but of course. I do have faith. I have faith that God exists. and because I have faith that He exists, I believe that He is the ultimate authority. and because I believe that He's the ultimate authority, I believe that what He says is truth. and I have faith that the Bible is how He reveals His word to us. it's based on faith, but faith is not where the truth comes from.

Bible>Faith. I'm not saying you don't, I'm just saying that I base all my beliefs on the Bible. and because of that, faith should not contradict the Bible.

that doesn't make sense. except for the P.S. lemme see if I can translate...

"Christians in Muslim countries most likely don't have a Bible, so they have to base their beliefs on faith."

ahh, I understand that. spelling is a good thing. anyway...

false. they cannot become Christians without the Bible to tell them how (or somebody telling them the gospel message and blah blah blah...). Faith without the Bible is how heresy begins. a Muslim-turned-Christian better not have faith on certain beliefs without validating them with the Bible. that's how heresy begins.
and that's redundant. that's redundant.

Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Without the latter (the bible) the former (Faith) can't happen.
PK homeschoolers hehehehehehe good luck getting a date.
My GF is a PK Homeschooler tyvm ;)

I'm homeschooled too so were equel. PK plus HS means pwnage.
100% wrong. I know of a PK (not my gf) or two that was HS'd and isn't that well versed in the bible.

1 This doesn't matter anyways.
2 The chasm in Rich man + Lazarus is Abraham's busom NOT heaven so that story is moot as well.

I never said you were, and honestly, I don't think you are. although, I do think that you think that your pious, something that would be good to stay away from. I'm just asking you to start thinking with your mind instead of with your heart. I understand though, I was there too for a long time in my life. not stupid, just flawed. but aren't we all?

Anyway...
Actually, I disagree RR & Ring Wraith.  For several centuries the church existed without a bound Bible like we have today.  I think it's possible to have faith without it.  I know you'll probably hound me on sources - I don't have any.  And I should probably do my Speech homework instead of looking it up, sorry!   :)

They did lack the NT but they had the OT and that was just as much the bible.

stupid edit button. who needs it? :P

yes and no. centuries? no. but the story was told by eye-witnesses. that was back when the Bible was in development. so yes, you are correct, it's possible to have faith without it, but no, it's still not right to come up with notions that are not based on it. otherwise, there's no way to prevent heresies. the Trinity was a heresy for awhile...

It's commonly known historical fact that the Bible was not bound together until 400ADish.

Long live Colin. No arguing that logic.  8)   sheesh I'm kidding!

Oh, and this:

Think long and hard - if it weren't for the Bible would you - or anyone else for that matter - know about God?
Yes, precisely because the primary revelation of the Creator is not Scripture but creation.

Quote from: Romans 1:18-20
The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

If you are saying that you can only come to know God through the Bible, you are in essence denying either God's righteousness or His justice. After all how could a just God wipe out the whole world for their iniquities (Noah, ark, etc.) if there was no Bible around to let them know they had sinned.

This is all from the "What are you reading? (A quick poll.)" thread.

A few thoughts on this thread.

1 - All theological beliefs should be checked with the Bible.  Yes God Himself is the ultimate authority, but He won't contradict Himself, and the Bible gives us a good, consistent, measuring stick to see if everything lines up right.

2 - The Revelation 20:10-15 passage mentioned earlier is a good citation for showing that Hell will eventually be a place of eternal punishment for Satan and demons and people who refuse to accept Jesus' salvation.

3 - The story of the Rich man and Lazarus is not as good a citation for describing what Hell is like.  Firstly it appears to be a parable (although perhaps not, since it is the only one with a named character), and Jesus' parables are often figurative.  Secondly it appears to be describing the waiting place where people go after death and before the Judgement Day.  For those of you who don't believe that there are people who have died and are still waiting to go to Heaven read Revelation 6:9-11, and then do a bit of research on the Bosom of Abraham or Sheol versus Gehenna.

4 - All the flame war / appeals to the memory of Colin / homeschoolers vs. PKs / etc. is unnecessary.
