Since neither of our usual TEAMS partners (Jayden Alstad & Nathan Voigt) could make it to Nationals, Martin and I were originally going to be teammates for the TEAMS event. I created the original deck list and then Jordan, Martin and I all worked to refine it Friday night. However, since I had a pretty successful Day 1 and Day 2, it made sense for me to be the official judge for Day 3 so that John (Day 1 judge) and Dayne (Day 2 judge) could both play on Day 3. The plan was made for Jordan to take my spot (unless Dayne decided not to play in Sealed. As it turns out, Dayne did in fact do Sealed, but I won't spoil anything about that...)

The goal of the deck was to pull off the Besieging the City/Mayhem combo on one of the players on the other team, which would give us a huge overall card advantage (essentially two hands playing against one). RBD and Golden Cherubim would then keep the other team from catching up.

The offense was a fairly standard Judges offense with Simeon and the Woman at the Well/Samaritan Water Jar combo. Those who know me know that I absolutely despise Water Jar for T2, but I think it's a great card for T1.

The defense is not one normally seen in TEAMS, but I was drawn to the number of CBN options Evil Gold had (both in characters and enhancements). The CBP Lost Soul bolstered the non-CBN enhancements as they were the type of enhancements that you did not need to play anything after (such as Failed Objective/Lies) or they interrupted in the case of Swift Horses.

I will let Jordan and/or Martin comment on what worked/didn't work and what changes they would make after playing six rounds against very good competition.

This was a fun deck to play against.  Using a gold defense was a surprise.  A Negated KoT got to BtC me first turn of the game when Blake and I played Jordan and Martin.  I just so happened to have all characters and art in my hand so I dropped everything to avoid the redemption version of wombo combo.

Blake had to rip a plot against them and both teams needed one person to draw SoG at the end that was all that mattered.  Blake managed to be the first one to find it.  I will say A judge happened to catch a mistake that all of us missed which ended up causing me to give away a freebie to Martin but allowed me to block Simeon (wa) later on.

Here was the scenario King Amon tries to recur wickedness of the tenants. He can't since its NT. I then take CWD. Later I block simeon solo with uzzah to CWD to gib trick. As it turned out not getting WotT was good for Blake and I because apparently Martin had dagger.  (Pretty sure that was a Moses rescue.)

All in all it was nice to get to play great teams competition and to hang the only loss of the day for this pair on them.  :-) congrats guys

Martin and I were going through alternate scenarios and because of the numbers involved, the only Hero that would have won that rescue was Ehud since he would get initiative after Uzzah plays CwD. Ehud plays Ambush the City, Jordan goes out with new Hero and you have no one to play Gib Trick on.

(For others' reference, Blake had CwD active so that's why Uzzah couldn't chump block.)

*Edit

This was assuming Jordan had Ehud in territory or had AutO to grab him from wherever. Using Secret Name wouldn't have worked because then Ehud's first strike keeps him from getting initiative.

Should ask Blake but didn't we instead a ehud dagger off ehud and then win BTN? They may have even been martins ehud.  Or maybe I am crazy.

Jordan confirmed that he did have Ehud in territory but he was planning to use Ehud on the second attack after playing Ambush the City.

Jordan, Martin and I all agreed that your and Mitch's deck was a tough match up...they were fortunate to get the Water Jars early to avoid being stalled by the sites. I was happy to judge, but I'll admit I did miss getting the chance to play against so many tough teams!

Sorry to derail this thread a little... but The Egyptian Rebel banded to Proud Pharisee who plays Arrogance, followed by Besieging the City+Hypocrisy+Mayhem seems so devastating!

You wouldn't be able to return the Heroes in battle to hand since that would insert SI before you could drop Mayhem, but otherwise yes...Arrogance just became playable... :o

True. I suppose a Wonders Forgotten would solve that, then during your discard phase you could empty your hand as much as possible and play Mayhem.

Arrogance just became playable... :o

Again! It was in the 2009 T2-2P winning deck that Clift designed.

Well they would be attacking so you would not target the Heroes in battle but then you could win the battle with WF. Then as soon as battle ends you drop Mayhem before they can put their Heroes back down. (Unless you started these shenanigans in a side battle...hmm...)  ;)

Except that Besieging the City only stops your opponent's drawing on their next turn so really you just need to play Besieging in battle, Hypocrisy at the end of your next turn, and Mayhem after they draw on their turn, which doesn't really make Arrogance necessary... Sorry guys.  :P
