It was alright, but the pieces broke easily, and you can't play very easily if you lose the instructions (which we did) so I haven't played for a long time.

The playing part is not the problem. But if you can tell me you memorized the eight different setups for card placement, then I'll be impressed.

I remember most of them, just not which number is which.

There's:
Awnings
Stairs
Closest to City Limits
Closest to Well
Tile Roof
Player's choice

I could probably remember the other 2 if I looked at the board again.

I guess if you want to. There's a lot of different setups to the game, so it's fun, but there's not a whole lot of strategery involved if that's what you seek.

Basic synopsis:
You are a Hero and you travel around the City of Bondage in search of Lost Souls and Captured Heroes to rescue. You enter the houses around the city and reveal all of the cards that have been placed on the house (which is done randomly before the game begins). The cards are either Traps, Lost Souls, Captured Heroes, Good Enhancements, Lamb Icons, or Evil Characters. Traps activate first and do things like double the strength of any ECs in the house or send you back to the outside of the city. Then you must battle any ECs in the house, which is done by rolling dice and trying to overcome the strength of the EC without taking too much damage yourself. (Interestingly enough, Rob Anderson initially considered using this dice method for the Redemption card game.) If your damage begins to build up, you may visit the Crystal Well in the middle of the city to relieve the damage.  If you defeat the EC, you may take 1 LS, Captured Hero or Good Enhancement in the house per EC you defeat. You win by being the first to rescue 5 LS/Captured Heroes.

All in all, it's pretty fun. There's elements of Stratego and Risk mixed with a Redemption flavor. If you have a couple of people with whom you play Redemption card game a lot, then this game is a fun one to mix it up a little.

*Bangs head incessantly on table and computer and keyboard* I have this game. Wow I'm smart. I like the game, although I wish there was a way to have more cards on the table.

Just roll the dice a couple extra times if you only have a couple of players. Incidentally, would you be able to post what each number is for setting up the city? We lost the directions awhile ago, and can't remember the exact numbers/instructions for setting up the city.

If you roll a: 1 = Place 1 card on each building in the two city sections on both sides of your entrance gate.

If you roll a: 2 = Place 2 cards on each of the four buildings nearest to the Well of Living Water.

If you roll a: 3 = Place 2 cards on each of the six buildings each of the six buildings with a dome.

If you roll a: 4 = Place 1 card on each of the nine buildings each of the nine buildings with a tile roof.

If you roll a: 5 = Place 2 cards on each of the four buildings that are nearest to the four city gate.

If you roll a: 6 = Place 1 card on each of the six buildings each of the six buildings with Stairs.

If you roll a: 7 = Place 3 cards on each of the three buildings each of the three buildings with awnings.

If you roll a: 8 = Place 1 card face up on any four buildings, one in each section of the city.

Then you place 1 card on all the buildings.

Maybe I'll dig this game up for another look.  I own pretty much every board/party game released by Cactus in the last several years, but not City of Bondage, but one of the guys in our church gaming group actually has it; brought it with him one time to show it off to us.

Actually, my little sister loves this game.

Sometimes she even plays me with my own redemption decks and lately has had a winning streak.  It's so depressing to lose to a fifth grader...  :-[

I think that Redemption CCG totally pwns this game. I thought the dynamics were okay, but not enough ways to put cards on the board to win. I played one time and nobody won because there weren't enough souls to rescue, and another time, the only thing on the board were souls!

I don't have this game but am curious; do players use Redemption CCG cards in the game or are they different cards that can't be interchanged between the two games?

They are based on Redemption cards, (same art, same names) but the cards themselves are different.
